Kid Rock's engagement to Pamela Anderson last month could lead to a lawsuit even before the marriage begins. Turns out the 1961 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertible he rented to pop the question in the California desert was not supposed to have been driven more than a few miles, according to the car's owner, Las Vegas ex-pro wrestler and auto-shop owner "Buffalo" Jim Barrier. Rock's proposal site was nearly 50 miles from the Strip, and the car blew its engine on the way back to the shop. Repairs will run between $8,000 and $12,000, according to Barrier. So far, he says, he hasn't seen a dime from Rock. If that doesn't change, Barrier says with a smile, "maybe Kid Rock needs some free wrestling lessons from me. I got the ring behind my building here, and I'll be glad to take him in there."
If awards were given for the most lavish celebrity gift bag, the loot given out at the World Stunt Awards 2002, airing May 31 on ABC, would easily take the prize. Twenty presenters, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jennifer Garner and Charlton Heston, will walk away with gifts totaling $40,000. But they won't actually fit into a neat satin sack: In addition to choosing one of three KTM Austrian motocross bikes, presenters will receive a Gericom notebook computer, his-and-hers Suunto watches, a Sony PlayStation 2 and a pair of night-vision goggles (important for stuntpeople, I guess). By comparison, this year's Oscars gift bag was valued at a measly $20,000.
On May 10, Michael Douglas wrapped his work on A Few Good Years, the upcoming comedy-drama costarring his son Cameron and his dad, Kirk. After saying goodbye to cast and crew, he told his son, "I've got to get my hair cut." Minutes later the on-set stylist was busy clipping his dark brown mane. "It's the first thing I do when I wrap a film," says Douglas, who finds it easier to shed his character when he sheds a few locks. "Psychologically I've got to get my hair cut." Wonder what he did after Falling Down, since he already had a buzz cut in that one.
Fast Takes: Brooke Shields and Chris Henchy, who have been married a year, tell us they're eager to start a family. "We're trying," Henchy says.... Meet the Parents star Teri Polo and her photographer husband, Tony Moore, are already succeeding: Their first child is due in August, and I'm told they can expect lots of blue at the baby shower planned for June.
