Try Madonna. And Jada Pinkett Smith and Geena Davis. And then there's Jennifer Aniston—who has never even been pregnant. When the Friends star first learned that her character, Rachel, who went into labor in the May 16 episode, was expecting, she had the show's costumer order a slew of Noonan's hip designs from her second store, Naissance on Melrose, in L.A. The $98 white blouse with oversize cuffs Rachel wore has now sold out, and customers are snapping up her cropped jeans ($110) and string-tied tee ($52). Naissance, says actress Joely Fisher, who wore the line when she was pregnant with her daughter Skylar Grace, 11 months, "is for women who won't let a baby get in the way of being stylish." There seem to be quite a few: This year sales passed the $2 million mark.
The maternity duds available back when Noonan, now 38, had her first child, Rafe, in 1996 (son Liam came along in '98), were duds indeed. "She would spend 20 minutes trying on clothes, then throwing everything on the ground," says her husband, Jim, a media executive. Noonan, then a publicist, thought of starting her own line but didn't go for it until two years later. Her only regret? "I wish I had come up with this before I gave birth," she says. "I like my maternity clothes now more than my regular ones!"
