At the MTV Movie Awards, Stars and Presenters Tone Down the Glam and Bump Up the Fun

Never mind the leopard-print carpet that led the likes of Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron and Hilary Swank into L.A.'s Shrine Auditorium on June 1. Or that a four-letter-strewn performance by rapper Eminem was the big draw. To many party-goers, the 11th annual MTV Movie Awards provided a chance to pay tribute to an icon of classic elegance. Call it Audrey Hepburn Unhinged. Or, as presenter Kate Beckinsale calls the orange hair extensions that complemented her black Yves Saint Laurent gown, "Rock Audrey." For The Princess Diaries star Anne Hathaway, meanwhile, the plunging neckline on her Balenciaga dress made her "feel like an Audrey Hepburn sex fantasy." Okay, so good taste was pretty much confined to the Mongolian beef satays and mini Ahi tostadas served backstage at a postshow soiree. "The vibe is irreverent," says ex-Beverly Hills, 90210 bad boy Ian Ziering. "This is not a family show."

Unless you're an Osbourne. Rocker and MTV-reality-show star Ozzy was in Europe touring with Ozzfest, but his missus, Sharon, showed up with son Jack, 16, and daughter Kelly, 17, whose first live performance (she sang Madonna's "Papa Don't Preach") was all her mother could think of. Almost. "I want to kiss Ben Affleck. Get him out here," Sharon squealed as she searched the Shrine for the Sum of All Fears hunk. "Where is he?" A guess: busy chasing after his own favorite buss buddies—like Beckinsale. Before the show started, he snuck up behind his Pearl Harbor costar and startled her with a smooch on the back of her neck. "People let loose here," notes MTV fashion correspondent Molly Sims of the free-for-all fete. "It's a crazy time."
