Jennifer Connelly is concerned that her relationship with her new beau, English actor Paul Bettany, is becoming too public, especially after intimate photos appeared in PEOPLE two weeks ago. When the two attended Elizabeth Glaser's Pediatric AIDS event on June 9, she asked him not to watch her as she read to a group of children. Bettany, who costarred with Connelly in A Beautiful Mind, complied, but then slipped back in unnoticed a couple of minutes later. Obviously smitten, he has a hard time staying away. "I knew from the first moment I saw her we were meant for each other," he tells us.

Since splitting with wife Drew Barrymore last December, Tom Green has yet to start dating again, but he's found other ways to fill his time. He's now a member of Tony Hawk's elite skateboarding team and will demonstrate his talents June 27 on The WB's The Skateboard Show. He's also redecorating the L.A. home he and Barrymore used to share with a collection of celebrity art. Large, kitschy oil canvases bearing the likenesses of Regis Philbin, Walter Cronkite and Suzanne Somers adorn walls in the front hallway, den and dining room, respectively, while one of Cindy Crawford and her family hangs above his bed. "I hope Cindy isn't mad," he says. "It's a little creepy." Needless to say, there isn't one of Barrymore.

Morgan Freeman, this is your life! At least that was the case at the 65th-birthday celebration for The Sum of All Fears actor in Clarksdale, Miss., earlier this month. About 250 guests surprised the actor at Ground Zero, the blues club he co-owns. Family and friends staged a 45-minute skit of his entire life, with scenes from some of his 30-plus films, that brought down the house. The following day everyone gathered at Freeman's 100-acre horse ranch for an all-day barbecue.

To make The Bourne Identity, star Matt Damon spent seven weeks last year filming in Prague, which doubles for Zurich. During one week, it was so cold, director Doug Liman tells me, that it became hard for Damon to speak. He had an especially difficult time forming vowels and saying words like "money." In order to finish scenes, Liman would have to call cut so Damon could press heat packs against his cheeks. Good thing he didn't have any outdoor love scenes.

When you see Christian Slater kick butt in his latest movie, the World War II drama Windtalkers, he's not just faking it. Slater is now a purple belt in karate (halfway to a black belt). He and his 3-year-old son, Jaden, began taking twice-a-week lessons together a year ago at a dojo near their home in L.A., Slater told me at the film's premiere. Jaden remains a white belt, however. "He's still at the observation stage," Slater says.
