Taking a uniform approach to fashion, stars like Drew Barrymore, Kate Moss and Nelly Furtado are stepping out in sleek military-style jackets. The inspiration comes from "a good old Army jacket," says Manhattan designer Marc Jacobs, whose $258 cropped cotton Marc by Marc Jacobs version is a hot seller this season. "It's feminine and casual." Not to mention "a fresh alternative to the jean jacket," adds celebrity stylist Samantha McMillen. "With jeans and a T-shirt it's casual," says stylist Petra Pfaffli. "It's more playful to wear a summery dress with this edgy jacket over it." Which helps explain why the style is enjoying a revival. "They were very big in the '60s," says L.A. stylist George Blodwell. "They weren't worn as an antimilitary protest, they just looked great." Plus, "that Army green is a great color," raves actress Monet Mazur. "It's my new favorite jacket for summer." And there's little chance of fashion fatigue. "They make such a strong statement," says Blodwell. "They're fantastic on a girl."

I hear that Julia Roberts made sure her wedding day wasn't just about her. Weeks before, she ordered 35 custom-made necklaces—Buddhist elephant charms on ribbons—from L.A. jewelry designer Marie Chavez. Then the new Mrs. Danny Moder played summertime Santa, inviting female guests to pick their favorites....
Like any self-respecting fashion plate, Catherine Zeta-Jones knows that style is in the details. Besotted with $415 crystal-dotted Kiss sunglasses by Sama that she bought, she had the prop master of her new film, Intolerable Cruelty, contact Sama designer Sheila Vance. The shade maker supplied frames to match Zeta-Jones's Cruelty outfits, including specs in chestnut, petal and garnet....
Heather Locklear and Debra Messing have gone gaga for the same boot—the Gloria, Jimmy Choo's $905 suede-fringed stiletto. Awaiting her black knee-high version, Messing gets by with a showroom sample. Locklear already has her ivory-hued pair. The rest of the planet can be Gloria-fied when they hit stores at the end of this month....
Preparing to play a book editor on three episodes of HBO's Sex in the City starting July 28, Saturday Night Live alum Molly Shannon decided it was time for an Eat-Your-Heart-Out-Carrie makeover. Manhattan clipper Oscar Blandi updated her look with a piecey-in-the-front, flippy-in-the-back short shag, while colorist Kyle White took her tresses from dark brown to a sassy honey brown.
Fly Boys
Long after Tom Cruise ditched his Top Gun aviators, shady stars like Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman continue to command attention in the classic frames. The shades "connote a look of authority," says L.A. stylist Jeanne Yang. "There is a certain allure to them that's sexy." Yet, she adds, the style is so simple, "you look good without trying." That's standard procedure for some of the style's fans. "Benjamin Bratt is breathtaking," says Yang. "You could put him in glasses with googly eyes and he'll still look great."

Is there any style item you regret not buying—and why did you forgo it?
Raquel Welch
"My husband called and said, 'I found this great black leather jacket Shall I get it?' And I said, 'No, honey. If I don't like it you'll be upset' Then I never could find another one. I should have trusted him. He's got very good taste."
Shiva Rose
"A flamenco dress I saw at Jet Rag, and I really wish I had gotten it because it was like $10 or $15—and then Imitation of Christ charged $900 for the same dress."
Dyan Cannon
"There was a pair of pants I saw—with holes in them and really worn in. I thought they were too expensive to be holey. They were about $1,200."

Insomnia's Hilary Swank didn't lose any sleep deciding what to wear to a recent L.A. bash. "Shiny black is perfect for a cocktail party," she says of the sleek Chanel dress she paired with Christian Louboutin pumps. "There's so much going on in this outfit. It's very tactile."
Face It, Baby!
Knowing the importance of saving face, Susan Sarandon and Liv Tyler are never without Tracie Martyn's Firming Serum to keep their skin camera-ready. Unable to travel to Martyn's posh Fifth Avenue salon? Don't frown; the all-in-one (firming, strengthening and line-reducing) purple gel created by the New York City facialist and her business partner, Marius Morariu, is now available for home use. Retailing at $145 for a 1-oz. bottle, the popular plant-based topical treat can "really help build the strength of the skin," says Martyn. "I use the serum every day. It makes a world of difference," says longtime fan Cyndi Lauper. "It's really healing." And, she adds, it provides instant gratification: "You see a difference right away."

It's a Thong Thing
What's poised to be the hot new item on Brazillan beaches? Supermodel Gisele Bundchen's thongs. Before anyone—or anyone's boyfriend—books a flight, though, be warned: We're not talking about those kinds of thongs. These designs separate the little piggy who went to market from the little piggy who stayed home. Bündchen's flip-flops will retail for $3 and be sold only in her native Brazil. "It is a good product for her," says her rep Anne Nelson. "She likes comfortable clothes." And who cares if she didn't design the line—called panema by Gisele Bündchen—herself? She chose from styles created by Grendene, a Brazilian shoemaker, and asked to have a 1½" wedge heel added "to be more comfortable," Nelson says. Her target audience won't mind. "In Brazil, she is a big celebrity," she says. "Her style is copied by kids."
