Cher Necessities
It's Cher. It's Her Final Tour. And, Yes, There Haven't Been This Many Camp Outfits in One Place Since the Last Scout Jamboree
"I dream up these things in my bedroom," said Cher, shortly after being lowered onto a Seattle stage while dressed in a jeweled Mongolian hooded coat and singing U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." The singer-actress, who is saying farewell to live performing during her North American tour, is not saying hello to subtlety: Her 11 costume changes require four dressers and her seven wigs a wigmaster. Cher, 56, and longtime designer Bob Mackie, 63, who created all but the final outfit shown here, were shooting for a sort of Cirque de Cher effect. "When she's in her top hat and tails as a ringmaster mistress," says Mackie, "it's the Cher-est Show on Earth."
