Heartbreak Harry
Prince Harry Marks His 18th Birthday by Looking Sharp—in An Official Portrait by One of His Mother's Favorite Photographers—and Doing Good
If anyone knew the cure for a bout of bad headlines, it was Princess Diana. So there was little surprise, and even some relief, when Prince Harry, who has caused a bit of a ruckus of late, spent a day before his 18th birthday on Sept. 15 making charity visits—and steering clear of pubs and clubs. Diana, he told Britain's Press Association, "had more guts than anybody else. I want to carry on the things that she didn't quite finish. I have always wanted to but was too young." She also had good taste in photographers: Harry chose Mario Testino—much admired by Di—to shoot his official birthday portrait, for which he styled his own oh-so-perfectly unruly hair. "The girls in my office were beyond themselves," said Testino. Should Prince William worry? Said Harry with a laugh: "Maybe he'll be jealous."
