Meanwhile, in Aspen, Kevin Costner has been keeping company with his former girlfriend, model Christine Baumgartner. The couple, who split early last year, were spotted together at Aspen's members-only Caribou Club this past fall, and on New Year's Eve they shared a romantic lunch at the Little Nell hotel. "They were laughing and talking and very much together," says a witness. A rep for Costner had no comment.
As star and executive producer of Monte Walsh, the TNT movie airing on Jan. 17, Tom Selleck wanted everything on the set of the western to be authentic. He personally hired a leather artist in South Dakota to create 1880s-era saddles for himself and his costars Keith Carradine and George Eads. In one scene Selleck made a stunt double change the bullets in his holster to period-appropriate rounds, even though they wouldn't be visible on film. "He lives, eats and breathes this stuff," says Carradine. That included a little cowboy generosity too: Selleck gave Eads and Carradine their handmade saddles at the end of the shoot.
Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who plays Mafia princess Meadow on HBO's The Sopranos, and her fiancé-manager A.J. Discala have chosen July 11 for their wedding—a date that falls in the middle of the show's new shooting schedule. "They're just going to have to stop filming for a day so everyone can go," says a friend of Sigler's. In a preview of the celebration, Sigler and Discala threw an engagement party on Jan. 6 that turned the hip Manhattan nightclub Suede into a mob scene. Sopranos costars Aida Turturro, Tony Sirico and Steve Schirripa showed up—as did 200 of the couple's friends and family members. Partygoers downed Italian food served on plastic picnic plates. Says one attendee: "It wasn't an uncomfortable, swanky party at all. It was very Jamie, and she's an everyday New York girl." Sigler wraps her role in Broadway's Beauty and the Beast in February.
Filming The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers in New Zealand was not for the weak of spirit—or body. During one grueling week Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) broke two toes while kicking a shield, Orlando Bloom (Legolas) fell from a horse and broke a rib, and the double for John Rhys-Davies (Gimli) sprained his knee. Despite the mishaps, all three then had to film a key sequence in which their characters run across Middle Earth. "We were sprinting a little, then hobbling back," says Bloom. Adds director Peter Jackson: "I would yell 'Cut!' and they would all stop running and start groaning."
