Arrested
Billie Joe Armstrong, 30, the lead singer of punk band Green Day, was arrested on suspicion of DUI on Jan. 5 in Berkeley, Calif., after police stopped him for speeding. Armstrong, who posted $12,000 bail, is due in court on Feb. 4. A rep for the singer had no comment.

Scrubs actress Christa Miller Lawrence, 36, and her husband of three years, Scrubs executive producer Bill Lawrence, 37, welcomed their second child, William Stoddard, on Jan. 3 in Los Angeles. William joins big sister Charlotte, 2.
Update
On Jan. 3 in San Diego, a superior court judge sentenced engineer David Westerfield to death by lethal injection for the murder of his 7-year-old neighbor Danielle van Dam last February (PEOPLE, Feb. 25, 2002). Westerfield, 50, refused to comment.
Deaths
Writer Jean Kerr, 80, best known for her 1957 bestselling memoir Please Don't Eat the Daisies, which inspired both a hit movie starring Doris Day and an NBC sitcom in the 1960s, died of pneumonia in White Plains, N.Y., on Jan. 5. Known for her self-deprecating humor, Kerr also collaborated on several Broadway plays with her husband, the late New York Times drama critic Walter Kerr....
Cinematographer Conrad L. Hall, 76, who won Oscars for 1969's Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and 1999's American Beauty, died of complications from cancer on Jan. 4 in Santa Monica. Hall is also a strong contender for an Academy Award nomination this year for Road to Perdition.
...Astrologer Sydney Omarr, 76, whose syndicated horoscope column appeared in more than 200 daily newspapers, died of complications from a heart attack on Jan. 2 in Santa Monica. Omarr had regularly counseled Hollywood stars including Angie Dickinson and Jayne Mansfield.
...Actor Royce Applegate, 64, who costarred in the 1990s sci-fi series SeaQuest DSV, was found dead of smoke inhalation in his burning Hollywood Hills mansion on New Year's Day. Applegate's career spanned three decades, with appearances in Splash, The Rookie and two upcoming films, Talking in Your Sleep and Gods and Generals. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
