With strong antiwar sentiment rising across the Atlantic, Columbia TriStar Pictures has postponed its international release of Tears of the Sun indefinitely. In the action-adventure, which opens stateside March 7, Bruce Willis leads a team of Navy SEALs on a rescue operation in Africa. Audience reaction to test screenings in France, Spain and England was extremely negative. If the film never opens overseas, it will mean the loss of tens of millions of dollars in revenue. Says one studio source: "This really isn't the time for a gung-ho action-hero film about American military operations."
On their first date—Feb. 14, 1983—Swing Shift costars Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn went in search of '40s swing music in L.A. So how did the pair celebrate their 20th anniversary together? With a romantic dinner à deux. Russell, who's currently starring in the police thriller Dark Blue, surprised Hawn with a catered dinner at their New York City apartment, which he filled with flowers. A confessed romantic, the actor also brought in live music courtesy of a string quartet and an accordion player. Take note, guys.
Britney Spears will be in Baton Rouge on March 2 for a cancer-awareness rally bearing her name. It's a cause that hits close to home, her mom, Lynne Spears, tells me. Lynne's older sister Sandra was diagnosed with ovarian cancer three years ago and has undergone chemotherapy twice. Although Sandra, 55, has been cancer-free for six months, she won't attend the rally with the rest of the family because she'll be in Houston getting her three-month checkup. "We're on pins and needles," Lynne says, referring to the cancer's high rate of recurrence. Britney has been "incredibly supportive" through her aunt's ordeal, picking up expenses that Sandra's insurance doesn't cover and babysitting her 11-year-old sister, actress Jamie Lynn Spears, when her mom needs to care for Sandra.
