"It's the most beautiful place I've ever seen," Clooney, 42, told PEOPLE. "You spend a week here, and you don't want to live anywhere else." Here, for now, is the village of Laglio, on the shores of Italy's Lake Como, where the actor bought a 25-room, 18th-century home, Villa Oleandra, for $10 million last fall. Two weeks ago he brought a gaggle of family and friends, including his parents and actor Adrien Brody, to unwind. The 850 or so residents of Laglio, which is about 25 miles north of Milan, seem to have welcomed the star with amore. "We like George," says Pietro Sacchi, owner of Harry's Bar in the nearby village of Cernobbio. "He says hello to everybody, and he never complains for anything." Why should he? "The food is great, the architecture is beautiful, and the people are lovely," says Clooney. "And they sleep for two hours at lunch. It's perfect."
