In early June, Australian magazine New Idea apologized to Penélope Cruz, 29, for a March article in which they insinuated that Cruz had cheated on her boyfriend Tom Cruise. The publication also agreed to make a charity donation and to pay Cruz's legal costs. The actress, who had sued the publication for defamation (PEOPLE, April 21, 2003), agreed to drop the case. A rep from the magazine says they are pleased with the settlement....
Actress Shelley Morrison, 66, who plays Rosario on NBC's Will & Grace, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor theft charge on June 4 in L.A. In April Morrison was arrested for shoplifting $440 worth of jewelry from a department store (PEOPLE, May 12, 2003). Morrison was sentenced to a year of probation and fined $300. "She has fessed up," said Morrison's lawyer, "and now wishes to move forward."

On June 6 in L.A., actress Sandra Bullock, 38, was granted a permanent restraining order against Thomas James Weldon, a 34-year-old Michigan man who, according to Bullock, has stalked and harassed her for more than a year. Bullock's lawyer said that Weldon has sent the actress numerous faxes and voice mails asking for dates and has admitted that he suffers from paranoid schizophrenia for which he refuses to take medication.
Actress Elizabeth Banks (Catch Me If You Can), 29, and Max Handelman, 30, a student at UCLA business school, plan to wed in L.A. this October. It will be the first marriage for both.
Rapper Master P, 34 (real name Percy Miller), was arrested at Newark International Airport on June 3 for illegal use of ammunition after police allegedly found the performer carrying several illegal hollow-tip bullets—known as "cop killers"—when he tried to check in a legally registered handgun. A rep for the rapper did not return calls for comment.
Polish film producer Lew Rywin (Schindler's List, The Pianist), 57, was indicted for influence peddling on June 6 in Warsaw, for allegedly demanding $17.5 million from a newspaper editor last July in exchange for Rywin's lobbying efforts to help change a broadcasting law....
On June 6 in L.A. actor Tom Sizemore, 41, pleaded not guilty to 16 misdemeanor counts of threatening, hitting and harassing his ex-fiancée, former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss, 37. The Dreamcatcher star, who was arrested last month (PEOPLE, May 26, 2003), faces up to 13 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
Donald Regan, 84, President Reagan's chief of staff from 1985 to 1987, died of cancer in Williamsburg, Va., on June 10. Regan, who was forced to resign in 1987 during the Iran-Contra scandal, had previously been Reagan's Treasury Secretary and before that the head of Merrill Lynch & Company. In 1988 he published a memoir, For the Record: From Wall Street to Washington, in which he revealed that Nancy Reagan consulted frequently with an astrologer.
