I Do, I Do, I Do!
Geraldo Rivera Makes Trip No. 5 Down the Aisle, Actress Leah Remini Braves 110° Heat, and Former New Kid Joey McIntyre Finds Magic in 8.09
AUGUST 10, 2003
Sure, he's a bit older. (Thirty-two years, to be exact.) And, yes, he's been married before. (Four times, but who's counting?) Yet when Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera, 60, wed his former Rivera Live producer Erica Levy, 28, Aug. 10, it was hard not to feel that—just maybe—this might really be the one. If nothing else, there's the indelible E he has tattooed on his arm in a Superman triangle. "Diamonds are forever," Rivera says with a laugh, "but tattoos are real commitment."
As 350 guests arrived at Manhattan's Central Synagogue, they were handed programs that met doubters' reservations head-on. "We have lived through enough drama and defied enough conventional wisdom to fill a lifetime," read a note from the couple, who had dated for three years. After the 6 p.m. ceremony began, "Oye Como Va" filled the synagogue, and Rivera, escorted by his two best men (sons Gabriel, 24, and Cruz, 16), literally danced down the aisle. The music changed to Abba for the junior bridesmaids (Rivera's daughters Isabella, 10, and Simone, 8), then Levy entered clad in a Vera Wang gown. During his vows, Rivera pledged, "I will cherish you for all time—and I promise to have a good time doing it."
Afterward at the Four Seasons Restaurant, guests dined on smoked salmon, filet mignon and plenty of quips. Levy's dad, Howard, 58, recalled that when he escorted Rivera on an outing, "We both had senior citizen discounts." All joking fell away when Isabella, spotting her dad schmoozing with friends like actor Cheech Marin, tugged on his arm and begged, "You have to stay with the bride!" That's the plan for the next two weeks as the newlyweds cruise the French Riviera.
LEAH REMINI & ANGELO PAGAN
JULY 19, 2003
The bride was a vision of cool elegance in her Les Habitudes ivory gown. Everyone else was pretty much a vision of heat prostration as 125 guests gathered poolside at the Four Seasons Hotel in Las Vegas July 19 to watch King of Queens star Leah Remini, 33, marry actor/salsa musician Angelo Pagan, 45. "It was outdoors at night and still 110°," says King costar Kevin James, adding with a laugh, "The best part was toweling off."
Well, that and watching Remini exchange vows with her boyfriend of six years. "The words were very funny, very heart-felt," says King producer Rob Schiller. "It brought tears to everybody's eyes." During the 15-minute service, performed by a minister from Remini's Scientology center, Pagan, who has three sons from previous relationships, "credited Leah with making him a better father," says Schiller. And Remini? "She credited Angelo with giving her some soul"—a reference to the salsa lessons that have loosened up her stiff dancing style.
JOEY MCINTYRE & BARRETT WILLIAMS
AUGUST 9, 2003
Small wonder Joey McIntyre chose to adorn his platinum wedding band with the number 8.09 in tiny diamonds. On Aug. 9, 2002 the former New Kids on the Block singer and Boston Public star became L.A. real estate agent Barrett Williams's very first client (and one she didn't recognize, having to look up his name on the Internet to learn what the excited buzz in her office was about). Months later she found him the perfect rental—at 809 Nowita Place. And this Aug. 9 the pair tied the knot in New York City's Plaza Hotel. "It was so elegant," says comic Mario Cantone, a longtime friend of McIntyre's who plays Charlotte's pal Anthony on Sex and the City. "They both looked incredibly gorgeous. I was so teary-eyed."
For the evening ceremony, which included a wedding party of 16, Williams, 25, wore a strapless ivory silk gown by Carolina Herrera (switching to a shorter version later in the evening), while McIntyre, 30, sported a black Gucci tux. But not everything was formal. After an inter-faith service officiated by both a rabbi and a priest, the newlyweds entered the dining hall to the strains of Madonna's "Like a Virgin"—which they then mimed and lip-synched jokingly before their 230 guests, among them former New Kids Jordan Knight, 33, and Jonathan Knight, 34, as well as McIntyre's eight siblings (he's the youngest) and his parents, Thomas, a union official, and Katherine, a homemaker. "I was like, 'That's her!' " fashion designer Emme says of her friend Williams's irreverent sense of humor. "Barrett is such a special, warm young person." As for the pair, who plan to honeymoon in Nevis and St. Martin, Emme says, "They're perfect for each other."
