Oh, the things a father will do for this daughter on her wedding day. 'It wasn't enough that Stella McCartney's Aug. 30 nuptials to Alas-dhair Willis took place at Mount Stuart, a 300-acre estate on the Scottish Isle of Bute, near the family farm. Or that the whole shebang—complete with three truckloads of white English Beauty roses from Holland and a 10-minute fireworks display—ran to $2 million.

Sir Paul, 61, who attended with his seven-months-pregnant wife, Heather Mills McCartney, 35, even made sure the music was stirring. Once such guests as Madonna, Liv Tyler, Kate Moss and bridesmaid Gwyneth Paltrow had dined on wild-mushroom pie and vegetarian sausages, the Campbeltown Pipe Band (heard on his 1977 hit "Mull of Kintyre") marched in. But perhaps Paulie's best gift to Stella, 31, a fashion designer, and Alasdhair, 33, a magazine publisher, was the conspicuous absence of the media, kept at bay by a 40-man security force. The result "was lovely," says Stella's uncle Mike McCartney. "All they wanted was a quiet, peaceful wedding." Which—except for those bagpipers—they got.
