And don't waste time worrying about 90210 alum Luke Perry, who dropped out a season ago. He's doing just fine, thanks. Earlier this summer he filmed a role in Bruce Willis's The Fifth Element, a sci-fi movie due next May, and started his own production company, Midwest Productions. Then he logged time in New York City shooting the lead in Lifebreath, a thriller out next year....
Out of the public eye for the last two years, Arsenio Hall is reemerging. Not only has he struck a sitcom deal with the DreamWorks SKG studio, but next week I'm told he'll sign to do a feature film, choosing among three contenders—two comedies and a drama....
Hot, young real-life couple Jonathan Brandis (seaQuest), 20, and Tatyana Ali (Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), 17, are beginning their first project together this week. They'll star in Fall into Darkness, a mystery-thriller movie airing on NBC later this fall....
Pine Valley may lose one of its mightiest trees come Christmas. Keith Hamilton Cobb, the dread-locked hunk who plays Noah on ABC's All My Children, has decided against renewing his contract when it expires at year's end. "I need more expansive characters," says Cobb, who will move to L.A. to pursue prime-time TV and film work. "Noah is boring. He came on as a wild card. Now he's a saint." Cobb planned to tell producers last week that he'll be departing, but says his decision is not a negotiating ploy....
This summer's must-read for movie-industry women seeking success in romance is The Rules: Time Tested Secrets for Capturing the Heart of Mr. Right, published last year and written by Ellen Fein and Sherrie Schneider. The slim volume, which Forrest Gump producer Wendy Finerman has optioned, teaches readers how to play really hard to get. Dicta include: "Don't accept a Saturday night date after Wednesday" and "Don't call him and rarely return his calls." One studio executive in her mid-30s, who asked for anonymity, says, "The Rules works because it's about the Hollywood type of personality. Everyone here wants the picture no one can get."...
MTV's Jenny McCarthy, the It Girl of the summer, has landed as a guest star on NBC's Wings. In an episode tentatively scheduled to air in late October, she'll play a woman who turns the tables on womanizing pilot Brian Hackett (Steven Weber)....
Last week Mad About You announced that Carol Burnett will play Helen Hunt's mom in an upcoming installment this year. Not that Hunt's character hasn't already had a mother on the show. According to a representative for actress Penny Fuller, who has played the role for the past two seasons, Fuller was "surprised and disappointed" when she heard the news....
And, finally, there's another O.J. book on the way. Pocket Books has signed Philip Vannatter and Tom Lange, the lead detectives on the Simpson case, to tell their version of it all.
Mitchell Fink is on vacation
