Outwardly, he hasn't changed much since his days as a Taxi driver. But reality has finally caught up with actor-turned-talk-show-host Tony Danza, in the form of a 7 lb. 14 oz. baby boy. Danza became a grandfather for the first time at 5:13 a.m. on Aug. 27, when his son Marc, 34, an entrepreneur, and daughter-in-law Julie, 34, a media director, welcomed their son Nicholas David. "There's a certain feeling of accomplishment that there's another generation," says Danza, 54. "But the most exciting thing is watching your son be a dad."
Danza—who himself became a dad at 19 with first wife Rhonda Yeomen—was at the hospital when his grandson arrived by C-section. "To watch my son come down and cut the cord and give the baby a bath—it's got me bouncing around, not touching the ground," he says. It had already been an emotional summer for Danza, who also has two children with current wife Tracy, 46. Their elder daughter Katherine, 18, recently left for college. "I feel like I got older this year than I had the previous 10," says Danza. "They better come up with something to keep me alive, because appearance aside, the years are flying by."
For now he's keeping up appearances as host of The Tony Danza Show in Manhattan and visiting his now bigger family in the L.A. area as often as possible. "He just keeps coming over," jokes Marc. "It's a great time for him. I have a feeling he'll spoil Nicholas." Says Tony: "I can't wait for Nicholas to say, 'Hey, Grandpa!' "
