STAR TALK
We caught up with a few famous faces at Fashion Week who talked about their favorite designers, model envy and whether they'd ever take a trip down the runway...
Ever walk the runway?
I did once, for Omega watches just as myself. [But fashion?] I wouldn't fit into anything. I'm an elephant!
ANNA KOURNIKOVA at Monique Lhuillier
What did you think of the Oscar show?
I was so busy loving everything I didn't have time to check out the models and say, "Oh my God, I hate her!"
EVA LONGORIA at Oscar de la Renta
Have you ever modeled?
That's how I got my start. I loved it. A young girl comes to the city and gets to work with amazing photographers. It was awesome.
GARCELLE BEAUVAIS-NILON at Tracy Reese
What are you going to buy [wife] Jessica tonight?
Anything she wants.
JERRY SEINFELD at Narciso Rodriguez
Loving any designers this week?
Marc Jacobs's stuff fits me really well, and it makes me look taller because I'm a medium-size Jewish man.
JEREMY PIVEN at Marc Jacobs
Would you walk in a fashion show?
I don't think anyone is going to be banging on my door. Those young women have cornered the market.
UMA THURMAN at Marc Jacobs
THE FRONT ROW
Paris Hilton, Kelly Osbourne and Carmen Electra hit Luca Luca. "Not only am I a fan," says Electra of designer Luca Orlandi, "he's gorgeous. I can't get over it!"
Kirsten Dunst and Sofia Coppola at Marc Jacobs, where the show opened with a marching band.
Katherine Heigl (left), Jesse Metcalfe and Sophia Bush at Tommy Hilfiger. "I've never been to a show before," says Heigl.
Scarlett Johansson shook her booty on the runway—and did a great Marilyn Monroe wave—at the Imitation of Christ show.
Six days before her own show, Gwen Stefani showed up to support her L.A.M.B. codesigner Zaldy at his.
Lil' Kim and Jeremy Piven at Marc Jacobs.
WHAT WAS SHE THINKING?
Let's hope Kelis's boots are made for walking—far, far away from the shapeless minidress and supersize hair she sported at the Baby Phat show.
TRIPLE VISIONS
Mariska Hargitay, Serena Williams and Eva Longoria proved three's a charm at Marc Jacobs's Sept. 12 show. They all wore his duchess silk tank ($785) from his fall 2005 collection.
Designers Donate
On the runway and off, some of Fashion Week's major players are doing their part to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
KENNETH COLE: His show's models, hairstylists and makeup artists will give part of their fees to the Kenneth Cole Relief Fund, and he will match the total.
DIANE VON FURSTENBERG: She left a note on each seat that read, "I thought that the show must go on. With that I will match the cost of [mounting] the show and donate it to Habitat for Humanity."
BABY PHAT: Guests were given "Compassion is Fashion" envelopes and asked to donate to either America's Second Harvest Relief & Recovery Fund or The Humane Society's Disaster Relief Fund.
M.A.C: It will sponsor a Fashion for Relief show featuring looks from Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Zac Posen and others that will be auctioned at yahoo.com to benefit AmeriCares.
20 YEARS OF TOMMY
Who'da thunk it? A small-town boy with one clothing store in Elmira, N.Y., wove his summers-on-Cape-Cod aesthetic into rap songs, celeb wardrobes and America's fashion landscape. At his Sept. 9 show in New York City, he sent 100 looks down the runway, each a glimpse into 20 years of Tommy Hilfiger, with star pals and former models on hand to give him props. "His styles are classic," says Jamie-Lynn DiScala, "no matter what your age."
Did you expect to be so successful?
I knew that some day with a lot of hard work I would achieve it. But it went by so fast!
Who influences your style?
I've always been inspired by music. As a rock icon, David Bowie embodies my flavor and Mick Jagger is one of the best in the world.
How did you know to put celebs like Kate Hudson in ads before they were superstars?
I knew Diddy before he was Diddy, J.Lo before she was J.Lo. It's about being immersed in pop culture. I just feel it.
Did you expect a hip-hop following?
I gave Snoop Dogg one of my rugby shirts to wear on Saturday Night Live and kids went crazy for it. I thought this is cool and I can make it cooler.
And for the next 20 years?...
I'd like to open more stores worldwide and become a global iconic lifestyle brand.
