After getting into a motorcycle accident in L.A., Shepard, who pulled practical jokes on many a star as Ashton Kutcher's co-conspirator on the 2003 season of Punk'd, found himself the boy who cried wolf. "I'm bleeding everywhere, and the motorcycle has skidded 200 yards," he recalls, "and this girl comes up to me and says, 'You're Dax from Punk'd. Is this Punk'd? Are you punking someone?'"
•Best Movie-Star Perk:
Wearing makeup, which he couldn't do for his undercover Punk'd pranks. "Let me tell you, people look bad on TV without makeup," he says. "I had to stand next to some of the most gorgeous people in the world." In Paddle (costarring Seth Green and Matthew Lillard), "it was shocking to me to not actually look ugly."
•Monkeyshines:
He graduated from UCLA in 2000 with a degree in anthropology. "I went to school and studied apes. What could be cooler than that?"
•Road Warrior:
"I live in a one-bedroom apartment and own five cars," says Shepard, who shares his Santa Monica pad with his girlfriend of seven years. "I firmly believe that the only reason for having money is to spend it on horsepower."
