On Sept. 16 Jennifer Lopez threw a surprise 36th-birthday party for husband Marc Anthony at his Brookville, N.Y., home. Decked in white, roughly 80 guests—including members of both of their families, rapper Fat Joe, actress Roselyn Sanchez and Star Jones—and a beaming Lopez, in a small-waisted white dress, enjoyed Cuban sandwiches, paella and Cosmopolitans made with white cranberry juice. After Fat Joe performed his hit "Lean Back," Anthony took to the stage and told the audience that he had suspected the worst when he noticed Lopez making secret phone calls. "I owe my wife an apology. I'm going to be making it up to her for at least two weeks," he joked, before serenading Lopez with an all-Spanish set. Deejay Cassidy then spun hip-hop tunes until the fete ended at around 1 a.m.
GEORGE IN WASHINGTON
Sporting a beard and 25 extra lbs. for his CIA agent role in the thriller Syriana, George Clooney (right) showed up at a Sept. 19 Washington, DC, fundraiser for his dad, Nick Clooney, 69, who's running for Congress in Kentucky. The pair charmed several hundred attendees at D.C.'s Lounge 201, signing autographs and posing for pictures. The night before, the actor also hosted an event for Nick at New York City's Level V that was attended by actors Richard Kind and Jerry Orbach. Says Clooney: "I couldn't possibly [run for office], but it's fun campaigning for him."
MATTHEW ASKS RACHEL TO MOVE IN
Matthew Perry wants girlfriend Rachel Dunn to relocate from New York City to L.A. so she can move in with him. While the fashion student is committed to heading west, "she wants her own place," says a source. "But right now she doesn't have income and refuses to take money from Matthew." Dunn recently stayed at Perry's L.A. home for a week, and the two went to the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sept. 12. Alas, Dunn got food poisoning that night and spent much of the ceremony sick in the ladies' room.
SEALING THE DEAL
Heidi Klum and Seal are getting serious. The German model, currently based in New York City, and her singer boyfriend just bought a home in the Hollywood Hills together, so that the couple, along with Klum's 5-month-old daughter Leni, can now be bicoastal. Though Seal is not Leni's biological father—Italian businessman Flavio Briatore is—the singer has happily taken on a paternal role, even referring to the baby as his own. "My daughter [Leni] and my lady are the only thing going on in my life," says Seal. "I've dreamt my whole life of having what I have now. I feel complete."
