Girlfriend Demi Moore was out of town, but Ashton Kutcher, enjoying himself at the Endeavor Agency's Sept. 17 Emmy pre-party, couldn't stop thinking about Moore and her kids. "With teenage girls, you're always on the go," Kutcher told a pal. "It's homework problems, boyfriend problems. It's always something."...When Paris Hilton couldn't get through the crowd at ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY'S Sept. 18 preparty, pals carried her to the dance floor, where she, Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan and Wilmer Valderrama boogied to tunes spun by DJ AM, Richie's boyfriend.... Monk nominee Tony Shalhoub had a clothes call when his tuxedo arrived sans pants. "I was considering coming in without them," he said.... On Emmy day, husband Bradley Whitford (The West Wing wasn't the only one supporting Jane Kaczmarek: The actress enhanced her cleavage with push-up wedges she termed "chicken cutlets." Said the Malcolm in the Middle actress: "Between girdles and cutlets, you can look pretty good in a dress."..."I want to clear something up," declared Shannen Doherty. "This tan is real. I've been in Hawaii filming North Shore. I read somewhere on the Internet that I had gotten a fake tan."...Late-arriving Jennifer Garner pulled Yes, Dear's Jean Louisa Kelly, a longtime pal and her Emmy date (new guy Ben Affleck was MIA), down the red carpet. "If anyone tries to come between us, I will shoot them," Garner said.... Sex and the City's Kristin Davis rushed inside the Shrine Auditorium 20 minutes early, telling friends, "I'm not getting locked out like last year, can't miss best supporting actress this time."...Drea de Matteo wasn't so lucky. She entered the Shrine just after Sopranos costar Michael Imperioli nabbed best supporting actor in a drama series. "I missed Michael winning?" she yelled. "F—-!"...Winner Elaine Stritch had no regrets about proclaiming her dislike for Scott Sanders, co-executive producer of her Elaine Stritch: At Liberty, in her no-holds-barred speech. "We've had our differences," she said. "He's a producer. Are you kidding?" Still, "I wish him well."...After Edie Falco and James Gandolfini lost in their categories, Sopranos costar Tony Sirico called out to Steven Van Zandt, "Hey, Stevie, does that mean we should get out of here? I'm ready to go if you are." (Minutes later, the show won best drama.)...Before he was cut off onstage, Gandolfini had intended to thank the First Platoon, Alpha Company, Task Force 22 Infantry, for their support. The unit named their tank the Stugots after Gandolfini's Sopranos boat and had sent the show a photo of themselves lined up in front of it. Emmys director Louis Horvitz later said that he kept the camera on Gandolfini, but when the actor hesitated after not realizing his voice was still being broadcast, Horvitz had no choice but to cut away.... At the Governors Ball, Joan of Arcadia's Jason Ritter explained that his baseball cap, bought on a family trip to Disney World when he was 8, served as a good luck charm and a reminder of his dad, John, who died a year ago.... Celebs couldn't resist the karaoke machine at the Entertainment Tonight/PEOPLE Mandrian hotel bash. Aisha Tyler sang Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean," Tom Green rapped to Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby," and Pat O'Brien joined in with the Queer Eye quintet on "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)."...At FOX's Spago party, The O.C.'s Adam Brody was still eagerly awaiting his presenter's gift bag. "Considering how much I've been hearing about it, a white tiger better pop out of it, or it will be a letdown," he said.... Jason Bateman was stunned by his low-rated Arrested Development's best comedy win. "We'll take it, even if it was a pity vote," he said Twenty-three-month-old James Wilkie Broderick wasn't on hand for his mom Sarah Jessica Parker's best actress win. "The little one is at home," said Parker at the HBO Pacific Design Center bash. "Hopefully, sleeping. I don't have to worry about him tonight, because he's in the best care with my mom."...Accepting one of Angels in America's 11 Emmys, a miniseries record, scribe Tony Kushner promised partner Mark Harris, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY'S editor-at-large, to one day "get a legal marriage license"; the pair, who have been together for six years, wed in a religious ceremony last year in New York City.... At the show, Kushner also reunited with The O.C.'s Mischa Barton, after casting her in his play Slobs when she was 9. Said Barton: "He is the reason I act for a living".... New couple JC Chasez and Desperate Housewives' Eva Longoria snuggled at the TV Guide party. Said Chasez: "I think she's pretty special."...The HBO gang later moved to an after-afterparty at the Peninsula Hotel, where Chris Noth groused to a pal about co-presenter Parker's icy reaction to his impromptu onstage marriage proposal. "She could have gone along and said something like 'Matthew, is it okay?' " he said. "I think she thought people wouldn't understand it was a joke."...Chicken cutlets still in place, Kaczmarek showed no signs of slowing down at the HBO bash. "It's the first time in five years that I don't have to work the Monday after the Emmys," she said. "My feet are hanging in there, but I have a purse full of Band-Aids just in case."
