Arhinestone platform shoe caught Marisa Tomei's eye. Iman loves the ballet flats. But fans like Cameron Diaz
and Reese Witherspoon
know that the appeal of Hollywould's fanciful shoes goes beyond sparkles and bows. Embossed on each sole are the words "It's hard to be sexy when your feet hurt." Creator Holly Dunlap, 32, learned that as an intern for Carolyne Roehm, when she was paid in models' cast-off Manolo Blahniks. So when she founded her company in 2000, she designed shoes for comfort. "You're stepping on silicone, like in breast implants!" says Dunlap, who is now introducing a new collection, silk jersey dresses priced from $650 to $1,400, that will be sold at Saks starting in November. "My customer is me," says the single Manhattanite, who posts a Bridget Jones-meets-Ferragamo diary about her party-heavy lifestyle on her Web site. "She's funny and sassy," says Iman. "You feel that in her creations." And not, for once, that familiar ache in your toes.
