MAKING AN ISSUE OF LOHAN
Lindsay Lohan seems like she's the only normal one in her family. Her parents are drifting on and off into madness, while Lindsay is living life to the fullest. Her parents need to stop bickering and put their children first.
Nathan Wright
Cleveland, Ohio
Your magazine, Lindsay and her mother all seem to think she's coping just fine. How healthy is it for 18-year-old Lindsay to be club hopping? Or being hospitalized for exhaustion? It sure doesn't sound like she's coping very well to me.
Becky Filipek
Pittsburgh, Pa.
I was disgusted to see this week's issue focus on the family problems of Lindsay. Whether a person is a celebrity or not, their dirty laundry shouldn't be shared with the world.
Genna Morton
Roslyn Heights, N.Y.
I'm a 13-year-old girl who has read PEOPLE for ages and has noticed your mention of stars like Lindsay smoking. Now, I'm not stupid enough to take a puff any time soon, but it could be a bad influence on others. Lindsay needs to get her head out of the gutter and ditch the cigarettes.
Keelin O'Sullivan
Normal, Ill.
Someone start the violin concerto. Must we read one more article about the inside life of Lindsay Lohan? In the real world, people in her Situation would be considered trash.
Mehrin Murphy
Denver, Colo.
CONTROLLING INTERESTS
After reading "Kids Out of Control," I found myself appalled but not surprised. Don't these parents realize that the point of raising a child is to produce happy, healthy adults who can contribute to the world around them? By not teaching them how to respect authority, understand limits and self-control, parents are insuring that their children will have a difficult time interacting with the adult world.
Heather Formoso
Denver, Colo.
Are parents in a coma? Maybe it's time to put careers aside and recognize the tough job parenting is, instead of indulging these children with every toy and privilege they dictate.
Marie Knowles
Vacaville, Calif.
Parents need to realize that a good dose of Vitamin N (No) is what most kids need. Children don't need more friends, they need parents.
S. Cox
Raleigh, N.C.
SECOND THOUGHTS
Thanks so much for the wonderful article on Diana DeGarmo. She's not only an incredibly talented singer, but comes across as a level-headed individual not letting fame go to her head. Diana may have finished in second place on American Idol, but she's a winner no matter how you look at it.
Carlie Gill
Anchorage, Alaska
Chihuahuas? DeGarmo's dogs Dixie and Rosie sure look like dachshunds to me. As the proud owner of one, I couldn't help but bring PEOPLE'S breed confusion to your attention.
Rose Anne Krutt
Winchester, Mass.
Editor's Note You're right. In fact, you've given us paws. Diana DeGarmo's dogs are indeed dachshunds.
SKIN-DEEP SHERIDAN
I'm floored that Nicollette Sheridan thinks so little of the American public's intelligence in "Faces the Rumors." Please, it's not a crime to have plastic surgery in Hollywood. I'm just infuriated because it doesn't take a rocket scientist or plastic surgeon to realize when work has been done. Brow arches and eyelids don't elevate overtime, they droop. Gravity isn't a mystery to anyone. Grow up, Nicollette.
Marcie Goyer
Oakland, Calif.
Face it, folks, Nicollette is naturally beautiful. Always has been, always will be! You got nothing to prove, Nicollette. Let 'em talk. The laugh's on them.
Mary Rich
Williamson, N. Y.
PROFIT SHARING
I was so uplifted by the story about Debi Cifelli, the recent lottery winner and homemaker who also raises money to buy burial plots for abandoned dead infants. I wish her and her family the best and hope Cifelli continues her selfless work. May the need for future plots for these babies become a thing of the past.
