SNUGGLING UP IN ASPEN
It may have been a day before their fourth wedding anniversary, but Kate Hudson and Chris Robinson were acting like newlyweds at the Dec. 30 party for the opening of the Ralph Lauren store. The couple sat fireside and cuddled at the bash which drew 400 guests, including Hudson's mom, Goldie Hawn, who looked glam in a full-length fur, and Kate's brother Oliver Hudson, who arrived with his fiancée, actress Erinn Bartlett. Also in attendance: Dean Cain, toting his 4 year-old son Christopher on his shoulders; Desperate Housewives star Nicollette Sheridan, who brought along both her new fiancé, Niklas Soderblom, and her golden retriever puppy Oliver; and The Sopranos' Jamie-Lynn DiScala. Having just learned to snowshoe during this vacation, DiScala told us she and husband A.J. plan to make Aspen their New Year's tradition: "We call it adult Disneyland," she says.

THEIR OWN PRIVATE IDAHO
Along with Aspen, Sun Valley was another big destination for stars looking for wintry fun over the New Year's weekend. Rob Lowe and Marie! Hemingway—a full-time Idaho resident—caught The Motorcycle Diaries, separately, at a local theater, while Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Hanks and Clint Eastwood were all spotted lining up to buy pastries Dec. 30 at Christina's Restaurant. On New Year's Eve, Schwarzenegger crossed party lines to accompany wife Maria Shriver to a soirée hosted by John Kerry and his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry.

PARTY HOPPING
ESPN ZONE, ANAHELM Dec. 30 Hilary Duff plays air hockey alongside Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden. The next day, the pair catch The Killers' New Year's Eve set at the GIANT Village block party in downtown L.A.... IL SOLE, L.A. Dec. 31 Nicolas Cage enjoys his last lunch of the year with wife Alice Kim and pal Linda Cummings, whose husband, Johnny Ramone, died of prostate cancer last September.... HARD ROCK HOTEL & CASINO. LAS VEGAS Jan. 1 Matt Damon and girlfriend Luciana Barroso chow down at Nobu with pals, including actress Eva Mendes, while Adrien Brody dines alone at the sushi bar. After dinner, Damon spends four hours in the hotel's high-limit Peacock Lounge playing blackjack.

LOVE, POP STAR STYLE
Just before launching into her hit "Pieces of Me" at the Orange Bowl's "Beach Bash" Jan. 3 in Hollywood Beach, Fla., Ashlee Simpson told the crowd, "For this song, I usually bring up a fan. This time I thought I'd bring up my biggest fan." That's when Simpson's sweetie Ryan Cabrera burst onto the stage, belted a few bars, then lifted his shirt to show that his sleeve is not where he wears his heart.
