Too Tough for Duff?
Hilary Duff recently found herself fearing for her safety while out for a bite with pals. "I was eating at Johnny Rockets, and these girls with mohawks and piercings came up to me," says Duff, 17, whose drama Raise Your Voice was just released on DVD. "I'm not intimidated by a lot of people, but these girls looked like they could mess you up. I thought, 'I'm about to get beat up.' " But the actress was pleasantly surprised by the punk-looking posse. "They walked right up to our table and were like, 'Oh, my gosh, we love you so much! Can we have your autograph?' " she recalls. "I said to them, 'Can I just be honest? I thought you guys were going to jump me!' "

Trendspotting Travolta
Onscreen dancing fool John Travolta loves to show off his moves with his wife, actress Kelly Preston. "She's a fabulous dancer," says Travolta, 51. "On occasion we have dinner and dance between courses. We'll do our Appetizer Dance and Soup Dance." Travolta once again flaunts his fancy footwork in his comedy Be Cool, due out March 4, in which he plays a music mogul. "It was my idea to dance in the film but only if it was cool, like a samba or bossa nova," he says. "And I wanted to get Sergio Mendes. At first the [producers] wouldn't agree. Then they found out that the Black Eyed Peas [worked] with him and suddenly, my idea was very hip. Old is always new again."

Camera-Phobic Dave
Performing for thousands of screaming fans is routine for Dave Matthews, but a movie camera gives him jitters. "I was afraid that I might stink," says the singer, 38, of shooting the family comedy Because of Winn-Dixie. But Matthews isn't out to impress the critics: "I have twin 3-year-old daughters, so the idea of doing a film that they might find interesting is cool. But, at this point, it's hard to get through five minutes of this movie with them-if it doesn't fly really fast or if it's not Peter Pan, it's just not going to cut it."

Emily's Edible Evidence
It seems that CSI: Miami could be right at home on the Food Network since
the special effects crew often crafts body parts out of food. "They'll make a bone out of chicken skin," says Emily Procter, 36, who plays ballistics expert Calleigh Duquesne. "People will be laying there playing corpses, and they'll smell unbelievably delicious." Turns out, they don't taste bad either. "Sometimes our makeup artist uses chocolate powder to make a thick blood," Procter says. "Once we had a large blood pool in a garage, and my glove got into it. Without thinking, I licked my finger. Everyone was like, 'Emily don't lick the evidence!' "
