Former tennis star Pete Sampras, 33, and his wife, actress Bridgette Wilson-Sampras (The Wedding Planner), 31, are expecting their second child this fall. The couple, who tied the knot in 2000, have a 2-year-old son, Christian.
Christina Applegate, 33, the star of the Broadway-bound revival of Sweet Charity, broke her right foot during a performance in Chicago on March 11. The show hopes that the actress will recover in time for the beginning of its Broadway run.... Actress Jane Fonda, 67, who suffers from osteoarthritis, will undergo hip-replacement surgery after she finishes doing publicity for her new film Monster-in-Law.
Following a hospital stay in February for severe gastric pains, musician Billy Joel, 55, recently checked himself into an undisclosed rehab facility for alcohol abuse. A rep for the singer said, "Mr. Joel asked that his privacy be respected."
On March 9 actress Tara Reid (Alone in the Dark), 29, filed a defamation lawsuit in Los Angeles against the owners of Sky Las Vegas Condominiums for using her name in one of their print advertisements. Reid claims the copy "Dear Tara Reid. Come let it all hang out" damaged her reputation because it implies that the actress intentionally exposed her breast as she walked the red carpet at Sean "P. Diddy" Combs's 35th-birth-day party in November (People, Nov. 22,2004). Reid, who is seeking damages, said that the company is capitalizing on the mishap, and she wants them to stop publishing the ad. A publicist for Sky Las Vegas declined to comment.
Bart Ross, 57, a suspect in the murder of the husband and mother of U.S. District Court Judge Joan Lefkow (PEOPLE, March 21, 2005), 61, shot and killed himself March 9 in West Allis, Wis. Ross left a suicide note confessing to the killings and a letter to a Chicago TV station that said he initially planned to assassinate the judge but "had no choice but to shoot" her family members when they found him in the basement of Lefkow's home. On March 10 police said that Ross's DNA matched a cigarette found at the crime scene.
Country singer and songwriter Chris LeDoux, 56—a champion rodeo rider who recorded albums featuring songs inspired by that life—died on March 9 from cancer of the bile duct in Casper, Wyo. LeDoux and Garth Brooks had a Top 10 hit in 1992 with the Grammy nominated song "Whatcha Gonna Do with a Cowboy."
