Actor Christian Bale, 31, who stars as the caped crusader in this summer's Batman Begins, and his wife, Sibi, recently welcomed their first child, a girl. The couple have not released a name.... Jonathan Davis, 34, the lead singer of the rock band Korn, and his wife, model Deven, welcomed their first child, a boy, Pirate, on March 18 in L.A. The couple wed in 2004.

ENGAGED
The Amazing Race's Ray Housteau, 44, a stockbroker, and Deana Shane, 27, a marketing exec, recently became engaged and plan to wed in May. The Ohio couple appeared on the current installment of the CBS reality show but were eliminated March 29. This will be his second marriage and her first.... Former California governor and three-time presidential hopeful Jerry Brown, 67, plans to tie the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Anne Gust, 47, an executive VP at Gap Inc., in June. It will be the first marriage for both.... TV host Lee Snijders (HGTV's Design on a Dime), 37, and his business manager Casandra Franceschi, 33, got engaged on March 19 in Palm Springs, Calif. The couple, who have been dating for five years, plan to wed later this year.

LEGAL MATTERS
Oscar-winning actress Hilary Swank, 30, was recently fined $163 for bringing an apple and an orange into New Zealand last October. The Million Dollar Baby star violated quarantine law by failing to declare the fruit at Auckland International Airport when she arrived from Los Angeles. "After my 20-hour flight I simply forgot," Swank wrote in a note to the court. "I do apologize sincerely."

RECUPERATING
On March 29 rock great Neil Young, 59, was treated for a brain aneurysm in New York City. The condition was discovered on March 14 when the singer had vision problems during the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony held in Manhattan. Following the procedure, Young said, "Thanks to my doctors, I'm feeling a lot better now." ...On March 29 in New York City, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, 81, underwent a successful angioplasty procedure. Resting at his Manhattan home April 1, he told PEOPLE, "I feel good. I plan to return to the office next week."

SENTENCED
Baywatch alum Michael Bergin, 36, was sentenced to 30 days in jail and three years probation after pleading no contest to drunk driving March 10. The charge stems from an incident last July when Bergin struck in-line skater Jennifer Armstrong while driving in West Hollywood.

DEATHS
Novelist Saul Bellow, 89, a towering figure in American literature who won the Pulitzer Prize in 1976 for the book Humboldt's Gift and received the Nobel Prize in literature that same year, died April 5 in Brookline, Mass., of undisclosed causes.
