Forget stark winter white; this season's version is fresh and flirty, in dresses detailed with eyelets, ruffles or crochet
Sandra Oh, in Bill Blass, at an awards ceremony in L.A.
Catalina Sandino Moreno, in Michael Kors, at an L.A. gala.
Jordana Brewster, in Giorgio Armani, at a party in L.A.
Helena Christensen, in a crocheted Chanel gown, at a Los Angeles party.
Behind the Seams
WHAT WAS SHE THINKING?
At a concert for U.S. Marines at Camp Pendleton, her hand called for peace, but Sharon Stone's psychedelic frock waged war on good taste. No wonder her breasts tried to escape.
IN HER JEANS: Cult favorite 575 Denim jeans are hand-finished for what designer Frank Mechaly calls a "couture distressed look." But while the jeans may be distressed, the celebs who own them—including Neve Campbell, who wore them at Sundance, and Lenny Kravitz—seem pretty happy. In fact Cameron Diaz stocked up on four pairs while shopping in L.A....
575 Denim jeans, $198; M. Fredric, 323-939-9072.
TO A TEA: When Lindsay Lohan twisted her ankle on the set of Just My Luck, she didn't cry over spilled milk—she luxuriated in tea. Lohan asked SalonTea creator Tracy Stern to send over her favorite Bath Teas, which scent water with herbs like lavender for relaxation or with rose petal for stress relief. Lohan is also a fan of the Eye Tea pads, which use chamomile and witch hazel to soothe tired eyes....
SalonTea Bath Tea, $18, and Eye Tea, $14; www.jenniferkaufman.com
CIRCLE OF FRIENDS: Finally, a haircut that could make you cry—in a good way. On April 23, 900 Fantastic Sams locations will hold a cut-a-thon, with proceeds going to Locks of Love, which provides hairpieces to children who have lost their hair due to illness. They'll also auction off blue rubber Fantastic Friends bracelets signed by celebs such as Kelly Ripa, Carson Daly, Melissa Etheridge and the cast of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, also benefiting Locks of Love....
Fantastic Friends bracelets: signed, at auction on eBay April 23; unsigned, $1, available at Fantastic Sams salons.
IF THE SHOE FITS: Ellen DeGeneres became Ellen DaJealous when she saw Ashton Kutcher on Oprah in Converse's limited-edition Chuck Taylor slip-on sneakers designed by menswear guru John Varvatos. Ellen, a major Varvatos fan, asked her stylist why she wasn't the first to have a pair. Problem solved. Varvatos put her on the top of the list for latest styles, and she ordered all seven colors of the new Converse.
Converse limited-edition Chuck Taylor slip-ons by John Varvatos, $95; 212-965-0700.
So long, sweats. Later, jeans. A peasant skirt is spring's go-to
Prairie skirts aren't just at home on the range. Celebs from Teri Hatcher to Kelly Osbourne are sashaying around L.A. in this tiered style. And why not? It's flirtier than jeans, but even more comfortable. And it skirts issues of cost, age and figure flattery, with versions for every price range and size. Our advice? Dress like a peasant, feel like a princess.
Teri Hatcher on April 2, in a Juicy Couture skirt, $195; Henri Bendel, 800-HBENDEL.
Calvin Klein lemongrass skirt in silk cotton voile, $140; Bloomingdale's, 800-232-1854.
Express tiered fuchsia prairie skirt, $69.50; Express stores, 877-415-4551.
Hotel heiress and (the other) Hilton sister Nicky Hilton, 21, has just launched the clothing line Chick by Nicky Hilton and spent last week at Macy's, the first stop on her 10-city Shop Like a Hilton tour. We caught up with her to dish about her new venture and, well, how to shop like a Hilton.
What inspired you?
I wanted to make a line that was high-end without high prices, sophisticated with a youthful edge. I like taking staple pieces like jeans or a blazer and making them fun. There's lots of airbrushing. I like to add details to make pieces stand out.
What's your favorite discount store?
I love Target. H&M is cute; they have fun accessories.
What do you scrimp on?
Sunglasses. It annoys me to go to Gucci and spend $400 on glasses because I know they'll be lost by the end of the day.
What will you splurge on?
How many Balenciaga bags do you own?
The new one I just bought today. I probably have, like, 15. But I was carrying them three or four years ago when I bought them in Paris, and no one knew who they were.
What's the most you've ever spent on a fashion item?
Five years ago I bought a diamond Dolce & Gabbana bra. It was way over $1,000.
Do you feel guilty about buying it?
Yeah. I only wore it once. I don't even know where it is. I think I lost it.
Finish these sentences. I am so over: Celebrities who complain about the paparazzi.
I wish ___ would send me___: Marc Jacobs. His entire collection.
I wish I could trade closets with: Gwen Stefani.
I always trust ___ to tell me how I look: Mom.
My signature scent is: Quelques Fleurs. I've been wearing it since high school.
FAVORITE SPLURGE: Balenciaga bag
SHE OWNS 15!
We thought the Dolly that got cloned was a sheep, not a sassy entertainer. But Pamela Anderson seemed to be channeling Dolly Parton at a recent New York City press conference to announce Anderson's new role as M.A.C spokesmodel. With her big...um, hair, glossy lips and long necklace, Anderson's a dead ringer for Dolly. It's only her bronzer that sets her apart. We don't know if Pam's fans will love the new look, but surely Dolly would.
