ALBERT
The son who inherits his father's throne has princely credentials: Amherst political science grad; former French Navy ensign; Olympic bobsledder; soccer champion; driver in the famed Paris-Dakar road rally. But it's the never-married prince's extracurricular that have played biggest in the press-partying and dalliances with the likes of models Angie Everhart and Claudia Schiffer. Still, Rainier's biographer Robinson believes that Albert is monarch material: "He's no fool, and he spent 20 years at his father's side learning who to trust."

STEPHANIE
Grace and Rainier's youngest wears the crown of Royal Wild Child. A former swimsuit designer, singer and perfume entrepreneur, she's most famous for her hit-and-run love life. A '95 marriage to former bodyguard Daniel Ducruet (father to Pauline, 10, and Louis, 11) ended when he cavorted with an ex-Miss Bare Breasts of Belgium. Next came bodyguard Jean-Raymond Gottlieb to Camille, 6). Then it was off to the circus: She toured with elephant tamer beau Franco Knie (Pauline even performed under the top), then wed acrobat Adans Lopez Peres in 2003. They headed to divorce court last year.

CAROLINE
After Grace's death, it was the royal firstborn who filled the public void. Caroline's noble demeanor has masked a stormy private life, including a failed first marriage to playboy Philippe Junot and the death of second husband Stefano Casiraghi (father of Andrea, 20, Charlotte, 18, and Pierre, 17) in a 1990 speedboat accident. In '99 she wed Prince Ernst-August of Hanover, 51, (father of Alexandra, 5). On April 4 Ernst-August was admitted to the hospital with acute pancreatitis, and at press time, he was in "serious" condition, said doctors. Even in the face of loss, Caroline's equanimity, says Rivere, underscores her "tremendous character, will and inner strength."
