When she went into labor on June 1, Denise Richards was at home in L.A., just as she had been before she gave birth to daughter Sam in March of 2004. And like that day, Charlie Sheen was at her side when, after a C-section a few hours later, the two welcomed into the world a 6-lb. 10-oz. baby girl, Lola Rose Sheen. As they said in a statement, "We're thrilled to finally meet our beautiful daughter." The difference? This time the parents' togetherness was temporary. Since filing for divorce March 2, Richards, 34, has been locked in a battle with Sheen, 39, over their children. She wants full custody and spousal support; he wants joint custody without spousal support. While a court is considering those issues, Richards granted another of Sheen's requests on her own: being in the delivery room for Lola's birth. "He wanted to be there. And she agreed to it," says a Richards pal. "But they're not getting back together."

Which is not to say Richards is alone. By June 4 Richards was back at home, vying for Lola time with Sam; her mother, Joni, 51 (who came from San Diego to help and was also in the delivery room); and even neighbor Heather Locklear. "I got a chance to hold [Lola]. She's adorable," says Locklear, who is also friends with Sheen, her former Spin City costar. Still, Richards will have her hands full when she returns to TV in the fall on UPN's Sex, Lies & Secrets. "I told her, 'You don't have two kids, you have two babies!' " says Locklear. And, alas, only two hands. But as Richards says, "I can't worry about being a single parent. I just want to be a good one." Grandma isn't worried. "Denise is a great mother," says Joni, "and a very strong woman."
