THE PETERSON PUZZLE
Whether Scott Peterson killed his wife, Laci, will never be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. The sad fact is, no one will ever know what happened unless the killer confesses. Therefore, I cannot in good conscience condemn him. Remember, conclusions which seem logical are not always correct.
June Weiner, Knoxville, Tenn.
The obvious bias of your story upsets me. The defense has somehow gotten to you. Scott isn't worth defending. Just the fact that you pictured him with his former girlfriend Amber Frey shows his heartless attitude and lack of love for anyone but himself.
Barbara Solano, Valdosta, Ga.
I wouldn't put it past you to put Scott Peterson on the cover of your Sexiest Man Alive issue.
Andy Robinson, Bellbrook, Ohio
Your article left out a huge question: why did the District Attorney in Stanislaus County rule pregnant Laci's disappearance a homicide months before her body and that of her son were found? Evidently, the D.A.'s office must have plenty more evidence regarding their deaths.
Michelle Kenoyer, Riverview, Fla.
I feel Scott is clearly guilty, [but if] he could get off, what could he do for a living? First he sold fertilizer. Now he produces it.
Diane Mason, Edmond, Okla.
BATTLEFIELD PARENTS
Someone explain to me why Vaughn and Simone Holcomb, who have six children, are both on active duty in Iraq. One of them should be at home with the kids. If those children, God forbid, lose both parents, someone should be held accountable. Dorothy Whitworth, Tulsa, Okla.
Grandmother Sue Bearer is doing just as much for our country as the soldiers. Taking care of six kids is never easy but at 59 years old it has to be tough. How wonderful of her.
Lisa Gentry, Adrian, Mich.
TEN COMMANDMENTS
I seriously think the folks in Alabama need to wake up and face the fact that this country was founded on the principle of religious freedom (among other things), and not every person who has come to our shores turns to the Bible and the Ten Commandments for moral guidance.
Melissa Swearingen Miller
Celebration, Fla.
I remember when the Ten Commandments were posted in every classroom. We recited the Pledge of Allegiance and had a prayer before classes started. At age 39, I never thought I would long for the "good old days."
Kelly Fain, Mansfield, Texas
THOMAS KINKADE
I was shocked by the tone and inaccuracies in your story about the financial difficulties of a handful of Thomas Kinkade Galleries, and I need to set the record straight. QVC is a valued and well-respected partner with Media Arts Group in our promotion of Thorn's artwork, and Thorn's appearance on QVC four times a year is one of the best events on television for us and our customers. As for your reference to "dumping," I never used this term in relationship to either Tuesday Morning or QVC. Also, the story incorrectly reported our 2002 revenues—$103.7 million, not $32 million. The fact is 99 percent of our gallery owners are happy, successful business operators, and that is the biggest oversight in your article.
Tony Thomopoulos, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, Media Arts Group, Inc.
PIERCE BROSNAN
I would like to clarify that Pierce Brosnan's quote in the Sept. 15 issue about the verdict in his Web site trial was, "If s supremely reasonable that one is entitled to one's own name." The second part of the response was from me and should have read, "We hope this might deter the cottage industry of people who may blacken celebrities' names by registering them as Web sites."
Dick Guttman, Beverly Hills, Calif.
