HIS SHINING MOMENT
Making like Jack Nicholson, David Arquette celebrated turning 32 with a birthday bash sponsored by PlayStation 2 on Sept. 10 at the hip Hollywood bowling alley Lucky Strike. Among the several hundred guests who joined Arquette and his wife, Courteney Cox Arquette, were Matthew Perry, Mike Myers and Christian Slater.

PARTY FLAVOR
On Sept. 13 Michael Jackson opened Neverland to the public for the first time. Four hundred people shelled out $5,000 each so that they could tour the grounds, ogle celebs such as Mike Tyson and Aaron and Nick Carter and help Jackson celebrate his 45th birthday. After everyone gathered under a tent to sing "Happy Birthday," things got messy. Jackson scooped up some frosting off the cake and flung it at Aaron Carter, who retaliated by smashing a chunk of the pastry in Jackson's face. Jackson then began spraying the crowd with pieces of the cake. Says chef Michael Parise: "You saw a different side of him."

OSCAR NIGHT
Stars flocked to Las Vegas last week to see the Sept. 13 Shane Mosley-Oscar De La Hoya title fight. Among those who caught the action ringside: Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, Dennis Quaid, Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant and Christina Aguliera. After the bout Kutcher and Moore ran off to the Cirque du Soleil Zumanity show, then dropped by Crustacean nightclub at 2:40 in the morning, where they met up with Tara Reid, Martin Lawrence and Mario Lopez. The champ himself, Mosley, had his own bash at rumjungle, then headed to another club, Light, where the Hilton sisters, Paris and Nicky, were kicking up their high heels.

ROLE PLAYING
Last week new mom Brooke Shields performed in The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway, a benefit production in which six 10-minute plays were written, directed and staged within a single day. Shields also participated in the event last year, when she was cast as a lesbian. For a change, this year she played...a lesbian. Says Shields: "I try everything, and I get cast as a lesbian. Someone thinks it's a unique idea."
