In Paris to promote her latest film, In the Cut, Meg Ryan and her son Jack Henry Quaid, 11, spent a day with Laura Dern and her 2-year-old son Ellery (with musician Ben Harper). The foursome (above, on Nov. 20) strolled the City of Light mostly unrecognized in winter garb. They visited the boutiques on Rue St. Honore, including the celebrated toy shop Au Nain Bleu, and peeked into a pastry shop but resisted the French treats.
A WORKING RELATIONSHIP
Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie don't seem to mind putting in some late nights on Oliver Stone's Alexander the Great project. While filming last weekend in London, the actors met the director at Annabel's, a swank private club in Mayfair, where Farrell didn't even put up a fuss when the doorman turned him away for wearing jeans. (He raced back to his hotel for some black trousers.) A few hours later the costars turned up and danced together at Elysium nightclub. Asked if there was something romantic going on between them, Farrell replied cryptically, "Angelina and I work together. Do you go out with people you work with?"
Kate Hudson, who's expecting her first child in February, must be pretty well stocked with the essentials. Her mom, Goldie Hawn, threw a baby shower for the 24-year-old actress at her Pacific Palisades home on Nov. 23. Goldie's guy, Kurt Russell, and Kate's rocker husband, Chris Robinson, were there, as were numerous friends including Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox Arquette and Naomi Watts, Hudson's costar in Le Divorce. Although guests left toting large pink-striped goody bags, a rep for Hudson says the couple do not know the sex of their baby "and don't plan to find out."
Average Joe has had its share of unexpected twists, but here's one that NBC hasn't advertised about the reality dating show: Two of the four remaining rivals, Adam Mesh, 28, and Zach Cohen, 29, knew each other long before they competed in prime time for the attention of bachelorette Melana Scantlin, 25. Prior to landing the TV gig, Cohen, an account exec for a mobile-phone company, and Mesh, a Wall Street trader, hung out together at Manhattan clubs, having met through a mutual friend a few years ago. Says Cohen of running into Mesh the first day of taping: "I was pleasantly surprised. It's a huge coincidence." Indeed.
