Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Tori Spelling, 30, and actor-writer Charlie Shanian, 34, plan to wed next summer. The couple met in February 2002 while costarring in the L.A. production Maybe Baby, It's You, a play about finding your soulmate.
Cincinnati Post columnist Nick Clooney, 68, the father of actor George Clooney, announced on Nov. 24 that he will run for the U.S. House of Representatives from a northern Kentucky district. Clooney, a political neophyte, will campaign as a Democrat. "I will tell you what I believe to be the truth, whether you agree with me or not," said the former TV news anchorman, who is also the brother of the late singer Rosemary Clooney.
Country singer Glen Campbell, 67, was charged with drunk driving and hit-and-run on Nov. 24 in Phoenix, after he struck another car while driving his BMW and left the scene. Later, when authorities came to Campbell's nearby home, he was also charged with assaulting a police officer. He was released on $2,000 bail. "Even at my age I learned a valuable lesson," Campbell said....
Actress Yancy Butler (Witchblade), 33, was charged with disorderly intoxication Nov. 22 in Delray Beach, Fla., after she wandered aimlessly into traffic. Police say she later became hostile when they tried to take her to a substance-abuse center. A rep for Butler had no comment.
On Nov 24 jurors in Virginia Beach sentenced John Allen Muhammad, 42, to death for masterminding the Washington, D.C.-area sniper attacks that left 10 people dead last year (People, Nov. 11, 2002)....
Record producer Phil Spector, 63, was charged with murder on Nov. 20, nine months after actress Lana Clarkson, 40, was found shot to death in his L.A. home (PEOPLE, Feb. 17,2003). Spector has said that Clarkson shot herself in the face.
Basketball great Alonzo Mourning, 33, announced on Nov. 24 that he is retiring from the New Jersey Nets to seek a kidney transplant. The athlete was diagnosed with a kidney disease in 2000 and missed most of three seasons before returning to the game this year.
Gene Anthony Ray, 41, best known as Leroy in the 1980 movie Fame, a role he re-created in the spin-off TV series that ran from 1982 to '87, died of complications from a stroke Nov. 14 in Manhattan....
Baseball's Warren Spahn, 82, who with 363 victories won more games than any other left-handed pitcher in history, died of natural causes in Broken Arrow, Okla., on Nov. 24.
