On Dec. 5, Elvis Costello, 49, and jazz singer Diana Krall, 39, wed in a civil ceremony in London. This is the first marriage for Krall and the third for Costello, who was divorced from former Pogues bassist Cait O'Riordan in 2002....

Actress Bridget Fonda, 39, and composer Danny Elfman, 50, married in L.A. Nov. 29. It is Fonda's first marriage, Elfman's second.

BIRTHS
Animal Planet host Steve Irwin, 41, and his wife, Terri, 39, welcomed their second child, a son, Robert Clarence, on Dec. 1 in Beerwah, Australia. The couple's daughter Bindi is 5.

SUED
Vin Diesel (The Fast and the Furious), 36, was recently sued for $8 million by scriptwriter Michael Kerner, who claims he was bitten in the crotch by Roman, the actor's 170-lb. mastiff, when he visited Diesel's house. According to the suit, Kerner received "three stitches in his penis and two in his scrotum" and suffered "nerve damage, loss of physical sensation and mental distress." A rep for Diesel called the incident "unfortunate."

GUILTY PLEA
On Dec. 5, actor Scott Bairstow (Party of Five), who was accused of raping a 12-year-old girl (PEOPLE, June 9, 2003), pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree assault. Bairstow, 33, who maintains his innocence, is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 16. He could get three to nine months in jail. The victim, who is a relative of Bairstow's wife, claims she first had sex with Bairstow in 1998 when she was 12.

LEGAL MATTERS
On Dec. 8 in L.A., Rhonda Miller, 53, sued Arnold Schwarzenegger, 56, for libel. Miller, who had alleged that the action star groped her when she was working as a stuntwoman, claims that Governor Schwarzenegger's campaign staff distributed false information about her to the media. A lawyer for Schwarzenegger called the suit "absolutely without merit and publicity motivated."

RECUPERATING
Music legend Ray Charles, 73, returned to his L.A. home Dec. 4 after undergoing successful hip-replacement surgery (PEOPLE, Aug. 11, 2003). "I feel terrific," said Charles. "I can't wait to get back on the road."

IN TROUBLE
On Dec. 6, funk music pioneer George Clinton, 62, was arrested in Tallahassee, Fla., and charged with cocaine possession, a felony, and possession of a smoking pipe. A rep for Clinton could not be reached for comment.

DEATHS
On Dec. 9, former U.S. senator and presidential candidate Paul Simon died in Springfield, Ill., a day after undergoing heart surgery. He was 75. The bow-tie-wearing Democrat, who ran for President in 1988, retired from Congress in 1997.
