Brooke Shields and Heather Locklear were just two of the glamorous moms sipping pink and blue martinis in a private suite at the Hotel Bel-Air Feb. 6 for Denise Richards's baby shower, hosted by the actress's friend, event planner Mindy Weiss. Richards and husband Charlie Sheen, who crashed the ladies-only party, don't know if their first child, due next month, will be a girl or a boy. "They want it to be a surprise," said Weiss. Speaking of baby gifts, Kate Hudson's son Ryder Russell is up to here in blankets. Since his birth Jan. 7, he's received two made from sheepskin, one suede, one cashmere and one in a bright red dragon print. It all started with grandma Goldie Hawn, who knitted a yellow hooded blankie for Ryder before he was born. "The hood part is so big, you can fit Kurt's head in it!" she told me, laughing. "It's probably not his favorite. What was I thinking?"
Hollywood joints were jumping on Feb. 7. At the House of Blues, Stevie Wonder gave a rare concert, sponsored by American Express. Beyoncé and beau Jay Z cut loose next to Prince, Kirsten Dunst and Jake Gyllenhaal, Ellen DeGeneres, Christina Applegate and on-again couple Leonardo DiCaprio and Gisele Bündchen. On the same night, In America director Jim Sheridan thought he was visiting pal Marlo Thomas at her Château Marmont suite—and walked into his own surprise birthday party. Ben Stiller, Chloë Sevigny, Heather Graham, The O.C's Mischa Barton and In America's Oscar-nominee Djimon Hounsou were among the well-wishers.
THE DATING GAME
Amy Davidson, one of the stars of 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter, must be relieved that Average Joe: Hawaii's Larissa Meek sacked Todd Mitchell from the NBC reality show. After all, Davidson's been secretly dating the 25-year-old trainer since August. The couple met almost a year ago working out at a gym. When Mitchell left to shoot Joe last summer, he kept it a secret. "He told me he had to go away to relax," says Davidson, 24. Two months after they began dating, Mitchell spilled the beans and the pair have been watching the show every Monday night with Rules costar Kaley Cuoco and ousted hunk Michael Klein (who are not dating). Says Davidson of her beau: "It's nice that we don't have to hide anymore."
Mandy Moore is still tight with tennis hottie Andy Roddick, but the 19-year-old singer has broken up with Sony Music. Says a source: "She made a great record [Coverage"] and not enough people heard it. Now every major label is after her."...
Gwen Stefani has been recording a dance record without No Doubt but says it's a "side project. I'm not leaving the band."...
We may get a chance to see what Colin Farrell's made of. In the independent film A Home at the End of the World, the Irish actor shot a scene completely starkers. "Nothing," says a witness, "is left to the imagination." Moreover, says another, "Colin has nothing to be embarrassed about."...
JC Chasez is still smarting that Justin Timberlake's Super Bowl performance with Janet Jackson cost him his own gig at the NFL's Pro Bowl game Feb. 8. "I feel like I've been treated unfairly," says Chasez, adding that Justin called him to apologize. "He told me he had no idea it was going to roll back on me."...
While in Germany for the Berlin Film Festival, sports fan Jack Nicholson took Olympic gold medalist Katarina Witt out for a three-hour dinner.
