RACUPERATING
Actress Brooke Adams, 55, had an emergency appendectomy March 14 in Waterville, Maine. Adams was in town to promote her film, Made-Up, which is directed by her husband, Tony Shalhoub, 50, star of the TV show Monk. Adams is expected to make a full recovery.
UPDATE
On March 4 a Tucson judge ordered Diana Ross, 60, to return to Arizona to spend another two days in jail for a drunk-driving conviction (PEOPLE, Feb. 23,2004). Last month Ross served a two-day sentence near her Greenwich, Conn., home. But because the singer reportedly left and returned several times during her jail stay, she did not satisfy Arizona law, which requires her to be incarcerated for at least 24 consecutive hours. A lawyer for Ross says his client served her time. An upcoming hearing will determine Ross's fate....
On March 8 a California federal judge threw out a lawsuit against TV's Bachelor Bob Guiney, 32. In December the producers of The Bachelor sought $10 million, claiming that Guiney had broken his contract and hurt the ABC show by releasing and promoting his own CD (PEOPLE, Jan. 12,2004). "Bob is thrilled," said his lawyer.

R&B singer Gene Allison, 69, whose Top 20 hits in the 1950s and '60s included "You Can Make It If You Try"—which the Rolling Stones later recorded on their 1964 debut album—died of liver and kidney failure Feb. 28 in Nashville...
Chuck "Be-Bop Charlie" Niles, 76, whose velvety baritone made him one of the most recognizable jazz-radio announcers in the country—and the only one to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame—died of complications from a stroke March 15 in Santa Monica.
