Trench Connection
The original was made by Thomas Burberry to protect First World Warriors from the mucky trenches—and it's still the wet-weather standard. But thanks to a spring deluge of new cuts and colors, you won't want to save your trench for a rainy day.
AYE FOR DETAIL: Trim, like the gold leather on Jessica Simpson's, is one way to add pizzazz. Or look for bright hues, like turquoise and hot pink, and extra hardware.
LAST BUT KNOT LEAST: If you don't use the belt, tie it behind you in a knot. Who wants to be a drag?
Behind the Seams
WHAT WAS HE THINKING?
At the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in N.Y.C., Lenny Kravitz had a new look—or is it two or three? We see a bit of Prince in the velvet tux and blown-out coif, Jackie O. with the shades, and pearls à la Coco Chanel. Lenny, if you're in there—come back!
LIV FROM NEW YORK: While in Manhattan promoting her new film Jersey Girl with Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler high-tailed it to the Chloé boutique and dropped a pretty penny on two pairs of low-waisted jeans--one with braid detailing ($470) and one without ($435). She went back the next day to buy a braided high-waisted pair ($480) and then wore all three within a week—to a screening, on TRL and on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Someone get these jeans an agent....

YUMMY MUMMY: On March 14 Debra Messing, her three baby-shower cohosts Melissa Etheridge, Camryn Manheim and Megan Mullally and 40 guests got Dessert's on Me body lotion, which smells like cake frosting. Given pregnant women's crazy cravings, let's hope she remembers it's not edible....

LUCKY GIRL: Was St. Patrick's Day in the air or was Halle Berry just feeling generous when she bought herself and daughter India matching gold four-leaf-clover rings? Either way, Berry dropped a bit o' green at Kitson when, in addition to the bands, she bought seven stack rings, five diamond cuff bracelets and a pair of diamond hoops, all by Mia & Kompany, for a total of $20,000 Well, that's the luck of the rich....
Four-leaf-clover 14K gold ring, $230; Kitson, 310-859-2652.
CUTE LOOT: Among the "it" gifts for celeb parents are Tiny Treasures for Tots baskets, which are being delivered all over Tinsel-town. Cheryl Hines, who just had a baby girl, Catherine, received the China Girl basket, and Denise Richards, whose daughter Sam was just born, got the Sweet Floral basket, filled with springtime goodies.
China Girl basket, $300. Size and content varies, $75-$300; www.tinytreasuresfortots.com
Eye Caramba!
Spring's eye-makeup palette is soft with pastels—pinks, purples, blues and greens—to complement the feminine fashions. But a few celebs are taking it to the extreme. Beyoncé's lids are laden with electric lavender while Tyra Banks's peepers are awash in brassy metallic. Color is hot this season, but it's best to subtly rim your lids for a look that's more eye candy and less eyesore.
BUILT FOR SPEED
Speedo just unveiled its new superhero-esque Fastskin FSII suit, which the U.S. Olympic swim team will wear in the Summer Games. Be the smartest person on the couch this August when everyone asks, "What are they wearing?" Here's what you need to know:
•The world's fastest swimsuit took four years to develop.
•The Lycra, spandex and polyester blend mimics a shark's skin, so that water flows smoothly over it with minimal drag.
•Speedo will give the suit to any international swimmer who qualifies for the games.
•The company is offering $1 million to U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps if he ties Mark Spitz's seven gold medals.
•In July the FSII will be available to the public in three colors for $350.

Israel might seem an unlikely font of beauty products, but it's home to Sabon (Hebrew for "soap"), an all-natural line being snapped up by celebs like Julianne Moore and Susan Sarandon. For an exotic fix, try the foam scrub made with Dead Sea salts or the rose-petal bath ball that Kristin Davis buys--the petals float to the surface after it dissolves.
