LINDSAY GOES POP
Teen-screen queen Lindsay Lohan is close to signing a recording contract with Casablanca Records, which would put her music career under the direct control of famed divamaker Tommy Mottola (he of Marian Carey and Jennifer Lopez fame). Lohan, who has aspired to pop stardom for some time—she recorded songs for both the Freaky Friday and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen soundtracks—is on the verge of landing the deal thanks to a meeting with Mottola during which she played him a CD featuring her singing "I Decide," an original tune written by renowned songwriter Diane Warren. "I had a feeling about Lindsay," says Warren. "She's got an edge to her." Warren plans on writing more songs for Lohan, who turned 18 on July 2. Meanwhile "I Decide" is the current single from the upcoming soundtrack for The Princess Diaries 2.

PRIVATE IN THE CARIBBEAN
Johnny Depp, who owns homes in France and L.A., just bought his own 40-acre Caribbean island. The remote retreat features a couple of small cottages (built by a previous owner) as well as six beaches, and is accessible only by seaplane, boat or helicopter. John Christie, whose real estate firm is handling the deal, won't say how much the actor paid for the private paradise but confirmed that such an island would cost between $1.8 and $3.5 million.

OWEN'S GO-GO GIRL
Owen Wilson, 35, has a new girlfriend, Argentinean salsa dancer Carolina Cerisola, who is in her early 20s. Cerisola, who appears in Justin Timberlake's "Señorita" video, is the star dancer (right) at L.A.'s trendy burlesque club Ivan Kane's Forty Deuce, which counts Christina Aguilera, Nicole Kidman and Demi Moore among its regular clientele. Cerisola and company have been so popular that at the end of August, a second Forty Deuce will open at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
