LINDSAY Turns 18
The teen queen celebrates her birthday with a little help from her celeb friends

Among the joys of turning 18, as experienced by Lindsay Lohan at the Los Angeles nightspot Avalon on July 2: dirty dancing to Ludacris's "Stand Up" with her boyfriend, That '70s Show's Wilmer Valderrama, 24, while sporting a low-cut black dress and golden high heels; sipping drinks with pals Tara Reid, Kelly Osbourne and Cris Judd; and keeping the party going until at least 3 a.m.—with her mom, Dina, looking on throughout the night. "She was bopping around," said one observer of Lohan. "She was very energetic and dancing with everybody." The late-night revelry was filled with hugs for the star of Mean Girls but apparently no birthday cake. Not that it mattered. Said the insider: "She seemed to be having a really fun time."

Roy Meets with Montecore

On July 1, almost nine months after he was nearly mauled to death, Roy Horn came face-to-face with Montecore, the 600-lb. white tiger that attacked him. An emotional Horn, 59, kept the encounter, filmed in Las Vegas for an NBC special scheduled to air this fall, as low-key as possible. A rep declined to give details or even say whether Horn's partner, Siegfried Fischbacher, was present at the meeting, held at Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden, their wild-animal exhibit at the Mirage. "Roy has had a great rapport with all of his animal family," said a source close to the Las Vegas duo. "It's no different with Montecore. That love and that bond is just terrific. There's unconditional love on both sides."

Many doubted such a reunion would ever be possible in the days following the attack. Horn was clinically dead for about a minute and had to undergo a series of complicated operations. Although his rep says Horn has regained his ability to speak and write, details about the extent of his recovery remain sketchy. But he recently appeared robust in a videotape promoting a new NBC series.

Halle's New Guy
Has Catwoman found her purrfect match? Halle Berry, who filed for divorce from husband Eric Benet, 37, in April, has been recently spotted keeping company with actor Michael Ealy {Barbershop). The pair, who met in April while filming the upcoming TV movie Their Eyes Were Watching God, enjoyed brunch together at Hugo's in L.A. on July 5 before heading to a nearby beachside park, where they nuzzled and kissed. Ealy, 30, and Berry, 37, topped off their day at a nearby ice cream shop. Reps for the couple simply say they are friends.

HAPPY CAMPERS: Penélope & Matthew
In the spring, while they were filming Sahara in Spain, Penélope Cruz showed costar Matthew McConaughey around her native land, taking him to popular restaurants and nightspots. Now McConaughey has returned the favor. Cruz recently joined the actor at the Big Oak River Camp, near his hometown of Uvalde, Texas, for a weekend of camping, tubing and fishing. The two have repeatedly denied a romance. But according to an eyewitness, "They were sharing the same camper. It looked very cozy."

The Amber Museum
Okay, the Louvre has better paintings. Still, Pennsylvania's Beaver Area Historical Museum is quite proud of its new exhibit: a collection of memorabilia from Survivor winner—and hometown heroine—Amber Brkich. Among the items on display: a bikini Brkich, 25, wore on the show; her boomerang; a leather canteen; a blindfold worn during several challenges; a personal scrapbook; and several magazine covers. About 200 people showed up to meet Brkich at the exhibit opening last month; attendance has since doubled. "It was just a nice thing that the hometown wanted to recognize me," Brkich says. Adds museum trustee Mark Miner: "There's a natural interest in our local TV history maker." Admission is free.

A PUP FOR NANCY
For Nancy Reagan's 83rd birthday on July 6, longtime friend Merv Griffin (who shares the same birthday) gave the former First Lady a four-month-old shar-pei puppy. She named it Dutchess, in honor of her late husband, President Ronald Reagan, whose nickname was Dutch. "Nancy just adores this dog," says Griffin, 79. "She just went crazy. It's the cutest thing I ever saw."

POP QUIZ

Christina Applegate

In the new comedy Anchorman, Christina Applegate plays San Diego's first female news anchor. Scoop talked to Applegate, 32, about the news business, wild animals and Broadway.

Do you watch the news?

Not while I'm eating, because it makes me sick to my stomach half the time. I try to be informed, but I don't know what kind of truths I'm getting. One second they're talking about Iraq, and up next, so-and-so wore Versace to the premiere.

What stories do you like?

I don't like car chases or anything to do with violence. I like stories on the good things that are happening, like local heroes.

We heard you had a Kodak moment while filming.

We had been working with these bears all day and they were great. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I see this bear charging me. I ran like you would not believe. Six trainers converged on him. I freaked. I said, "I'm not going to do any more bear stuff today."

Weren't you in the jury pool for the Robert Blake murder trial?

You can't imagine how scared I was. The trial was going to take six months! I'm here to do my duty, but hey man, not for frickin' six months. But Blake fired his attorneys; that excused us.

And you'll star in Broadway's Sweet Charity next spring?

Who knew the gal could hoof it? And sing? I've been dancing since I was 5. It's going to be a wonderful challenge.

You recently went on your honeymoon—nearly three years after marrying actor Jonathan Schaech. What's up with that?

We stayed at the Bora Bora Nuir sort and it was absolutely breathtaking. The best thing was jumping off the balcony of our room into the water.

Will you work together?

No, I think it's better to keep that separate. [Actors] get into trouble when they start doing that too much.
