Nicolas Cage, News Anchor Ashleigh Banfield and Ed's Tom Cavanagh Say 'I Do' in a Weekend of Splashy Summer Nuptials
July 24, Kenora, Ontario
The former MSNBC anchor's marriage to Howard Gould, a real estate financier, should be smooth sailing—judging by their nuptials aboard a custom-built, 1930s 85-ft. yacht. "I grew up here," says Banfield, 36, of the Royal Lake of the Woods Yacht Club, "and have been surrounded by boats all my life." She and Gould, 31, who met two years ago while dog-walking near New York's Central Park ("The dogs became tangled, and we started talking," she says), tied the knot on the upper deck of The Grace Anne, flanked by groomsmen and bridesmaids who'd been ferried aboard by two separate boats. A Native Canadian justice of the peace presided as the couple's 185 guests looked on from the dock. The most romantic moment: "When Howard kissed me at the end of the ceremony," says the bride, whose trademark glasses were conspicuously absent. "I was trying to look more feminine," she says, "and I didn't have any reading to do."
Tom CAVANAGH & Maureen GRISE
July 31, Nantucket
The Ed star, 35, who wed his beloved Carol (Julie Bowen) at a bowling alley in last winter's series finale, found a classier venue for his real-life nuptials to Maureen Grise, 33: a 19th-century, cedar-shingled Roman Catholic church. "It was phenomenally romantic," says Lesley Boone, who attended with Bowen and Ed castmates Michael Ian Black and Josh Randall. "The minute Mo walked into the church and we saw Tom's reaction to her, Julie and I just lost it. "The couple, who met two years ago on a New York City basketball court, are both sports nuts—she's a photo editor at SPORTS ILLUSTRATED—so the Notre Dame fight song heralded their arrival at the reception, held on the beach at the Summer House, a nearby inn. (A vacationing Katie Couric, who happened to be dining inside, sent a note of congratulations.) Asked about the wedding, Cavanagh seemed the blissful newlywed. "It was perfect," he said. "Just perfect."
Nicolas CAGE & Alice KIM
July 30, Northern California
Nicolas Cage's large family had an inkling a wedding was coming up for the 40-year-old actor and Alice Kim, 20. How right they were: The couple eloped and married without any family or friends present. "I figured it would be fast and small," says Cage's older brother Marc Coppola, a New York City deejay, "because the last one was so big." He's referring to Cage's short-lived, headline-making 2002 marriage to Lisa Marie Presley (their divorce became official in May). Unlike Presley or Cage's first wife, actress Patricia Arquette, Kim is a showbiz outsider who met Cage at a Los Angeles nightclub six months ago. According to Coppola, the former sushi waitress is interested in a career in law or hotel management. "She's educated and a great girl," says Todd Black, producer of Cage's upcoming movie The Weather Man. She's also 20 years younger than her new husband. But Coppola isn't worried. Kim is "worldly and mature" and is already embraced by the family. "They're a good fit," he says. "Definitely. I think this will last."
