On the soccer field, baseball diamond or basketball court, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes—often with Cruise's sister Cass, 41, in tow—always form a powerhouse family cheering squad for his sporty kids Isabella, 13, and Connor, 11. But on March 25 at a Little League game at L.A.'s Roxbury Park, Cruise was left to root for Connor's team, the A's, all by himself. Where were Katie and Cass? "At Katie's shower," explained the proud papa-to-be.

Make no mistake: Between the baby shower, diaper deliveries and Holmes's rounder-than-ever belly, Hollywood's giddiest expectant parents are expecting a special delivery soon. Not that the impending due date has slowed their high-octane schedule. Private jetting it up to the headquarters of high-tech giant Yahoo! in Sunnyvale, Calif., on March 21, Cruise, 43—a pal of CEO and former movie producer Terry Semel—waved his fiancée onstage to cheers from 1,000 employees. "She jumped right up there," says Yahoo! rep Heidi Burgett. "He patted her belly to the delight of everyone."

With the nursery in order—in January, Holmes, 27, picked up $20,000 worth of bedding and furniture at L.A.'s chic Petit Trésor boutique—the couple have been regularly visiting the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International and spending time with family, including Tom's mom, Mary, 69, and Katie's mom, Kathy, 59, both of whom attended Holmes's shower. On March 24, workers dropped off bags of diapers at the couple's L.A. mansion along with a poster reading "... but be silent and make all physical movements slow and understandable." (The edict is likely a reference to Scientology's guidelines on birth, which include maintaining an atmosphere of serenity around a newborn.)

With the wait almost over, Holmes "is clearly happy," says Petit Trésor co-owner Nina Rioja. Like any first-time mom, she's learning as she goes. Shopping for her nursery, "she said, 'What do I need? I've never done this before!'" says Rioja. "She was so excited about everything."

Katie's Baby Buys
Shopping at hip baby store Petit Trésor, Katie Holmes had done her homework. "She said, 'Wait, I read that you're not supposed to keep a pillow in the crib. That might suffocate the baby,'" recalls co-owner Nina Rioja. Among her buys: bedding with a nursery-rhymes print—in gender-neutral colors—a white sleigh crib and hand-painted changing table (at right), a Moses basket from Italian company Picci, a silk baby book and a MobiCam baby monitor to keep track of her little one.
