"Brooke is smart, talented and always takes the high road. What a lucky family to have her to embrace them"

The cover of Brooke Shields and her children is one of the most beautiful in a very long time. Brooke has overcome so much, and it shows in her eyes. More power to her for standing up to Tom Cruise and his beliefs. She really showed him up—without jumping on couches and having her family on every magazine cover. Good luck to all of them.

I truly am thankful to Brooke Shields. After the birth of my daughter almost three years ago, I also had a severe case of postpartum depression. I am now facing the tough decision whether or not to have another baby. It's something I really want, but I am terrified. This story has given me hope.

From a 40-year-old mother who named her first child after Brooke Shields, I say bravo for putting her on the cover. I have admired Brooke since we both were children. I am happy that my daughter's namesake is such a positive role model for women. Congratulations, Brooke and Chris, on your new daughter.

TORI AND DEAN
Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott may have been the ones to get married, but their exes Charlie Shanian and Mary Jo Eustace got the gifts. They are well rid of this tacky, insensitive duo.

Finding your "soulmate" is one thing, but flaunting it with all the details of your romance and wedding—even though you claim you "don't want to hurt anyone"—is disgusting. I feel sorry for their ex-spouses and McDermott's children.

KATIE'S BABY WEIGHT
I'm no fan of Tom Cruise or Katie Holmes, but give the girl a break. She had a baby a month ago, and already you're raising an eyebrow with observations such as "she has yet to shed most of her pregnancy pounds."

"UNSCHOOLING" METHOD
Regarding your story about putting kids in charge of their own education, give me a break. How are children to learn to succeed if they don't have time constraints or someone guiding them? Reality check: Superiors do not hold your hand or let you do what you want, whenever you want. For Pete's sake, exert some authority over your children and be a parent, not a friend.

KATRINA RELIEF
It warmed my heart to see Jennifer Garner, Reese Witherspoon and Holly Robinson Peete taking time out to shed light on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Why doesn't it surprise me that three of the most down-to-earth, level-headed and gracious women in Hollywood have taken this on? My only question is, why is it that only Angelina Jolie's [humanitarian] efforts receive cover recognition?

UPDATE: Change of Heart
In our May 8 issue we reported on Nick and Nate Draper, 9-month-old Phoenix twins born with identical heart defects. Nick had received a transplant in February, but Nate was still waiting for one. Now the wait is over, but in a way no one expected. Though his doctors don't fully understand why, Nate's heart has become strong enough on its own to support him. "It's as near to a miracle as I've ever seen in all my years in practice," says Dr. Juan Alejos, Nate's cardiologist at UCLA's Mattel Children's Medical Center. The boys' father, Mike, agrees: "They're both going to be at home now. No matter what the future brings, we can handle it."
