JENNIFER ANISTON and VINCE VAUGHN have kept their distance while promoting The Break-Up, even staying in separate hotels before the May 29 Chicago premiere. In fact, their act was so convincing, some began to suspect a real-life split. But after the movie's fete, the pair hit hot spot Cabaret together for '80s tunes and take-out pizza. Even more telling? On May 30 the two spent an hour inside Chicago's Palmolive Building, where they are rumored to be buying the penthouse condo. (Reps had no comment.)
STILL TOGETHER
For a couple "on the rocks," KEVIN COSTNER and CHRISTINE BAUMGARTNER sure spend a lot of time together. Despite reports of a separation, "everything's fine," says his rep. She has been overseeing the sale of their L.A. home while he films in Louisiana, but on May 28 they watched Costner's daughter Anne graduate from Brown University. And earlier that week Baumgartner, 32, joined Costner, 51, for together time in Shreveport, La. Hitting the Plex gym, says owner Rick Brown, they seemed "like a happy, normal couple."

On May 26 REESE WITHERSPOON (above) treated her 6-year-old daughter Ava to a pedicure at Zumani Nail Spa in L.A. While Mom got a mani, Ava watched intently as a technician applied bright red polish to her toes. Reese admired the work: "That looks so good!" she told her daughter.
ELLEN DEGENERES put on her poker face at the GQ/Calvin Klein Celebrity Poker Tournament in Bel Air May 23, cordially greeting her ex ANNE HECHE (they've kept their distance since splitting in 2000).
