Orlando Bloom, 30, evaded hit-and-run charges in connection with a recent car accident when the L.A. district attorney's office announced that there was insufficient evidence to pursue a case. The actor told authorities paparazzi were chasing him Oct. 12 when a vehicle swerved into his lane in Hollywood, resulting in a crash that injured Bloom's two female passengers.... Singer Kid Rock is unstuck from a hard place thanks to Tommy Lee. At Lee's request Las Vegas authorities announced that they will not pursue a battery charge against Rock, 36, who scuffled with the Mötley Crüe drummer, 45, at the MTV Video Music Awards in September.
A second child is on the way for Roc-a-Fella Records co-founder Damon Dash, 36, and his wife, fashion designer Rachel Roy, 33. The couple have a daughter Ava, 7.... Actor-comedian David Alan Grier, 51, and his wife, museum curator Christine Y. Kim, are awaiting their first child, a girl due in February.
It's a boy for ER's Mekhi Phifer, 32, and his fiancée, Oni Souratha, 34, who had their first child, Mekhi Thira, in L.A. Oct. 30.... Comic Larry the Cable Guy (real name: Dan Whitney), 44, and wife Cara, 31, welcomed their second child, daughter Reagan, in Lincoln, Neb., Oct. 29. Whitney, who has a son, Wyatt, 1, joked on his Web site: "I'm a little worried because my son and I like the same stuff. So I hope I'll be able to relate to a little girl. I'm just hoping Skoal comes out with a strawberry and cream dip!"
Daniel Dae Kim (inset), 39, of ABC's Lost, was arrested Oct. 25 for allegedly driving drunk in Hawaii, where the show is filmed. "It saddens me to know that I jeopardized the welfare of the kind people of Hawaii," the actor said.... An L.A. judge ruled Oct. 30 that a suit filed by actor Robert Culp, 77, and real estate agent Aaron Leider, 50, in August alleging that the Los Angeles Zoo mistreats elephants can go forward. The court rejected arguments by the city that the accusation lacks legal basis.... Gary Collins, 69, former host of Hour Magazine, was formally charged Oct. 26 with misdemeanor DUI after colliding with an 89-year-old motorist in L.A. three days earlier. A police spokeswoman said that although Collins was not at fault for the crash, "When officers arrived at the scene, they smelled alcohol and issued a field sobriety test, which he subsequently failed." A rep for Collins had no comment.
A first-edition hardcover of 1997's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone fetched $40,326 at Christie's auction house in London Oct. 25. The U.K. novel's initial print run was only about 500, many of which were purchased by libraries, making the remaining copies scarce.
Country Music Hall of Famer Porter Wagoner, 80, whose signature style included rhinestone suits and a blond pompadour, died of lung cancer in Nashville Oct. 28. The three-time Grammy winner helped launch the career of Dolly Parton, who got her big break at age 21 as a regular on The Porter Wagoner Show. "When Porter died, it was like a piece of me died with him," Parton, 61, told PEOPLE. "We were always so attached musically and emotionally." Wagoner, known as Mr. Grand Ole Opry, remained active during his twilight years, releasing the acclaimed CD Wagonmaster in June and opening for the White Stripes in July.
