JOSH KICKS IT COLD SCHOOL

Minnesota native Josh Hartnett believes that if you want to study the arts, go north. "There are an inordinate amount of creative people that come from my hometown, because we literally spend six months out of the year inside. We've got nothing to do but imagine," says Hartnett, 29, who stars in the horror flick 30 Days of Night. "We've got a couple of true geniuses like Bob Dylan and Prince. There's just so much time to practice. I think climate ultimately affects everything. If you have nothing but beaches around you, you'll probably surf and have a great tan, but it's going to affect the way you look and act, period."

Then I went to my sisters, and they said, 'Now you know the painful truth, but don't tell Mom and Dad because we may not get gifts anymore. You've got to keep pretending.' So I was like 16, going, 'Dad, when is Santa coming down the chimney?' My dad was like, 'Look, this is getting weird. You know there's no Santa, right?'"
