'VICIOUS' BOOK

Tom Cruise is under attack, and his camp is fighting back. In the new book Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography, author Andrew Morton makes shocking allegations against Cruise, including the seemingly preposterous claim that some fellow Scientologists wondered if Cruise's wife, Katie Holmes, "had been impregnated with [Scientology founder L. Ron] Hubbard's frozen sperm." He also writes that while Holmes, 29, was pregnant, she and Cruise, 45, lived "in separate wings, with separate ... bedrooms." Cruise's rep Julie Polkes tells Scoop, "The book is a false, vicious and bigoted attack on a man, his religion, his family and even his young children.... The author never interviewed anyone close to Tom, including his business partners, his agents, actors, directors, studio executives, friends, family members." Morton's publisher, meanwhile, maintains, "We stand by our book and our author." So is Cruise going to sue? "No legal action has been taken," says Cruise's lawyer Bert Fields. "Clearly the book is libelous, but I never comment on what our legal plans are."

After nearly a year together, Justin Timberlake, 26, and Jessica Biel, 25, are still going strong. The duo spent the first part of the holidays in Tennessee with Timberlake's relatives. After catching up on a little family time, the pair rang in the New Year snowboarding at the Beaver Creek Resort in Colorado. So what's the secret to their romantic success? "Jessica's not threatened by other women, which has been something Justin has struggled with in the past," says a friend. "Also, he always asks her opinion on things; they definitely make a lot of decisions together." Adds the source: "They're very much a couple, but they're not clingy." Good thing since Biel heads to London later this month to begin work on a new project.

Jessica Alba and her fiancé, Cash Warren, are enjoying their time together before baby makes three this spring. The couple—who dodged breakup rumors last year—have been inseparable since announcing they were expecting: On Jan. 5, they perused cribs at L.A.'s The Little Seed baby boutique. Later that day, Warren, 30, wrapped a protective arm around Alba, 26, as they took in a showing of Juno. Two days later in Oakland, the couple went to an NBA game. But there was plenty of off-court action too. Says a source: "They were canoodling as they walked through [their hotel]."

NFL star Tony Romo, 27, whisked Jessica Simpson, also 27, to Los Cabos, Mexico, on Jan. 4 along with her folks, Joe and Tina, and a few of his teammates and their wives. "Tony surprised [her]," says a Simpson source. The group mostly chilled out poolside, but Simpson did get in some action: At the airport she playfully grabbed Romo's tush.

The Office's Rashida Jones, 31, and John Krasinski, 28—who were romantically linked in 2005, before Jones landed on the show—are back on! According to a source, the costars spent New Year's Eve together on the Caribbean island of St. Bart's, where they rang in 2008 on mogul Ron Perelman's yacht: "They're definitely boyfriend and girlfriend." Adds another source: "He loves sweet girls and she's just the sweetest thing ever."

Gisele Bünchden, 27, and her NFL star beau Tom Brady, 30, had dinner at N.Y.C.'s Kobe Club on Jan. 4, ordering enough food to—almost—fill a football field. "They had tomato salad, wedge salad, ravioli, salmon, Dover sole, truffled fries, veggies, whipped lobster, berries and cream, chocolate caviarand more!" an onlooker told Scoop. Bündchen and Brady's craving for food could be related to their appetite for each other. According to psychotherapist Dr. Mark Hillman, "Couples in love absolutely eat more."

Ever have trouble sleeping after a scary day on the set?
The only one that was really disturbing to me is the episode where the guy got shot in the eye with a nail gun. It was horrifying.

Have you learned a lot about crime-solving?
Technology is so fantastic now that they can literally get your print off everything. People ask me if we're making criminals smarter. The thing is, everybody is getting smarter about forensics.

Offscreen, are you a fan of true-crime stories?
Not at all—I just got into it! Our writing staff is made up of ex-CSIs and homicide detectives, and they have the most fascinating stories.

Does your daughter [Kaya, 6] watch the show?
Uh-uh, no way! Little kids, 8 and 9, come up to me and say, "I love your show!" and I'm like, "You watch the show? You're not scared? It's scary!"

You were on All My Children—do you still keep in touch with your costars?
We have great alumni. It was me, Kelly Ripa, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Josh Duhamel. Josh was there after Sarah left, but she had a crazy crush on him and would always come back [to visit]!
