BRITNEY SPEARS

"It's time for Britney Spears to grow up and start putting her kids' needs ahead of her own"

I feel very sorry for Britney. Mental illness is a serious concern, and I hope she gets the help she needs. Sadly, she is only one of the hundreds of thousands of people who suffer from emotional and mental difficulties. Maybe Britney's problems will make others aware that mental illness can strike anyone: rich or poor, young or old.

Britney is the mother of two beautiful little boys who need their mom. I understand Kevin Federline's first priority is to protect the boys, but he needs to step up and help their mother too. Whatever happens to Britney will ultimately have a huge impact on those children. Brit needs to be left alone, and hopefully she'll receive the help she has long needed. The Spears family has been in a state of crisis for far too long.

As a person who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, it is infuriating that every time a celebrity acts out, the press decides that he or she has bipolar disorder. Not everyone who has bipolar disorder shaves her head and locks herself in her bathroom with her son. There are people, like myself, who take medication to treat their disorder and are fine. Yes, there are daily struggles, but not all of us are crazy and deranged like Britney Spears.

ADAM TURNER

As the mother of a 2-year-old boy with eosinophilic esophagitis (EE), I was thankful to see your story about Adam Turner, who also has EE and is on an extremely restricted diet due to food allergies. My child may never know what it is like to have a hot dog at a baseball game or cake on his birthday, but your article reminded me that food isn't everything. Having a life that revolves around fun, not food, is a must. Your story has inspired me to work harder at finding that balance and making sure I raise a happy child.

HEART GALLERY

I appreciated your article on the Heart Gallery in New Jersey. But you failed to mention that there are Heart Galleries nationwide and that the need for families to both foster and adopt children is tremendous. For a complete list of Heart Galleries, and to learn more about children in your area, you can go to www.heartgalleryofamerica.org.

NICOLE KIDMAN

After the split with Tom Cruise, Nicole showed us all what a classy lady she is. I have admired her for years and am elated that she has found true love with Keith Urban. I am happy for them both and know how excited they must be about adding a baby to their family. It couldn't have happened to two more deserving people.

WRONGLY CONVICTED?

Readers voiced strong support for a trio of young men imprisoned for the 1993 murders of three Arkansas youngsters. Kathy Naylor of Syracuse writes, "The West Memphis Three were convicted of a horrible crime based on nothing more than the backwoods hysteria and ignorance of a community desperate for a scapegoat." Victoria Lawshe of Osteen, Fla., adds, "I have a son who dresses in black, enjoys metal music and is questioning his religion. Does this make him a murderer? Far from it. It's time these young men came home." But on Jan. 16, Arkansas attorney general Dustin McDaniel said that—despite an increasingly vocal campaign to reopen the case and new DNA findings that some feel implicate two other men—he does not believe those findings exonerate the young men, and has no plans to retry them.
