Britney Spears
ROCKY REUNION
A tearful and tense Britney sees her mother after a four-month separation
Their last public reunion in October faltered after mere days, but on Jan. 28 Britney Spears and her mom, Lynne, were together again after Lynne, 52, came to L.A. from Kentwood, La., to be by her 26-year-old daughter's side. Things did not go smoothly: After a now-too-typical wild night that included a spat with pal Sam Lutfi and hitching rides with paparazzi, Britney finally returned home to face Lynne. Contrary to reports of an intervention, a source tells PEOPLE mother and daughter, along with pals, including Alli Sims and Lutfi, simply had a "family bonding session over a lot of things." But the next day, at a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Beverly Hills, "Lynne and Britney were arguing in the car the whole time," says an onlooker. Adds a Spears family friend: "Britney wasn't really open-minded to all the bonding they had hoped for, but they're not giving up hope."
The Sutherlands: JAILHOUSE BONDING
During Kiefer Sutherland's 48 days in lockup, the 24 star's dad, Donald Sutherland, paid a deposit on a jail telephone, enabling his son to call for 14 minutes every three days. "You've never seen 14 minutes go so quickly in your life," says Donald, 72. Serving time for a second DUI conviction and violating probation, Kiefer, 41, kept to himself, Donald says, mingling with other inmates only while doing laundry. "He didn't want visitors," the father adds. After Kiefer left jail, the pair dined at L.A.'s Koi Jan. 22 and again two days later at Brass Cap. "I couldn't believe how much he ate," says Donald. Despite a complicated past relationship, Donald says, "I could not be more proud of a son, a man and an actor than I am of him."
New Kids on the Block
BACK!
Twenty years ago New Kids on the Block released their breakthrough album, Hangin' Tough, catapulting the five singers to superstardom and ushering in the boy band era. Six years and 70 million albums later, the band broke up. Today? Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Jonathan Knight, 39, brother Jordan Knight, 37, Donnie Wahlberg, 38, Joey McIntyre, 35, and Danny Wood, 38—now older kids, reunited and feeling groovy again. All five recorded a new song in Orlando last November. The mellow ballad debuted on the band's Web site on Jan. 29, playing over a video that teased, "Are you ready?" "I loved being a part of the group and have always thought maybe someday we'll get back together," Danny Wood wrote on his MySpace page on Jan. 28. "You just never know when your someday will come."
HEART MONITOR
LOVE IN RECESSION
Recent news surrounding celebrity couples seems as bad as the numbers on Wall Street. A bear market for romance? Fortunately love is a long-term investment. Expect an upswing soon
DANIEL RADCLIFFE & LAURA O'TOOLE
The Harry Potter star may be back on the market. Britain's News of the World reports that the country's wealthiest teen star split with Laura O'Toole, an understudy in the London production of Equus. His rep had no comment; hers had "no idea" if they were together.
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE & JESSICA BIEL
While visiting England to appear in a new Madonna video, "4 Minutes to Save the World," Timberlake took a side trip to see his girlfriend, Biel, filming Easy Virtue—based on a Noel Coward play—in Oxfordshire. The couple were spotted Saturday night dining together at the romantic restaurant Locanda Locatelli in Central London.
JOHN KRASINSKI & RASHIDA JONES
One surefire way to know if Krasinski has split from his Office costar Jones is to ask his plans for Valentine's Day. Which is what Scoop did, adding "Are you dating anyone?" His answer: "I'm not at the moment! I'll be in New York for Valentine's Day, so hopefully New York will think of something!"
ADAM LEVINE & REBECCA GINOS
The Maroon 5 singer's girlfriend, Ginos, has been MIA lately, most noticeably at Sundance, where he hung with his parents, and Las Vegas, where he spent quality time with Playboy bunnies at the Palms casino. A Levine pal confirms: "Adam broke up with his girlfriend." His rep had no comment.
DAVE ANNABLE & EMILY VANCAMP
Brothers and Sisters star Annable and his costar VanCamp were once very much an item, a source tells PEOPLE, but preferred not to discuss it publicly. They were together at the ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY party at Sundance. But back in L.A., Annable said at the Hollywood club Goa he was "newly single."
Gwen Stefani
BABY ON THE WAY
The sweetest thing in Gwen Stefani's life this week? News that she is pregnant again. This will be the 38-year-old singer's second child with husband Gavin Rossdale, 42, following in the footsteps of their son Kingston, who turns 2 in May. The couple wed in London in 2002. "The whole family is delighted," Rossdale's father, Douglas, tells PEOPLE. "We are very much looking forward to another grandchild."
Amy Winehouse
REHAB!
"I fear the prison chaplain is going to walk into my cell and break the news that Amy is dead," Amy Winehouse's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, wrote in a recent letter to his mother from jail. Perhaps Fielder-Civil—awaiting trial on charges related to a pub brawl—can rest easier now that Amy said yes, yes, yes to more rehab by checking into London's Capio Nightingale Hospital (below) Jan. 24. "Everything is proceeding as it should," Amy's father, Mitch Winehouse, tells Scoop of her latest stint. Will the singer, up for six Grammys, be out in time to perform at the Feb. 10 show? "We don't know," he says. Blake's mother, Georgette Civil, hopes "she stays and gets clean."
LINDSAY OFF THE WAGON
Nearly four months after Lindsay Lohan completed rehab—and one month after she was spotted sipping champagne on New Year's Eve—the actress is back on the drinking scene. On Jan. 28 Lohan sipped vodka at Manhattan's Beatrice Inn with three pals, according to an onlooker. "She will always be a social drinker," says a source close to Lohan. "It's not a big concern." But another pal is worried about Lohan being back on the scene. "They need to send her back to rehab," says the source. "I saw her in a club and said, 'You don't need to be here; you're just making it worse.'"

The Strange Wilderness star reveals his parenting secrets and offers Matthew McConaughey some fatherly advice
Q&A
In Strange Wilderness, your character is the eccentric host of a TV wilderness show. Is he based on Steve Irwin?
No, it's just the look of all these guys blended together. I thought we were patterning him after Marlin Perkins from Wild Kingdom!
Some of your other films have raunchy humor. Is there any film you won't let your kids Henry, 7, and Audrey, 5, watch?
About 50 percent of my stuff! Like SubUrbia. But I don't spend a lot of energy keeping them away from things. I spend more energy explaining things like, "Oh, those are dirty words" or "That's all pretend."
Are they used to your fame?
Once, my son opened a magazine and said, "Dad, that's you!" It was a picture of Don Cheadle. I was like, "That's great. You're color-blind." I guess he thinks, "Dad's in magazines."
Your buddy Matthew McConaughey will soon be a dad. Any advice?
YoBaby yogurt is very good for your baby. Just don't finish it when they eat half of it because you'll get fat in one week. I think I gained 20 lbs. in a month just finishing off their food. Baby food is a trap for new parents!
