Patrick Swayze is "doing fine" following a short stay at Stanford University Medical Center in California earlier this month, says his rep. The 55-year-old actor underwent a "gastrointestinal procedure."
Actress Julianna Margulies, 41, and husband attorney Keith Lieberthal, 35, are first-time parents of a baby boy named Kieran Lindsay Lieberthal, born in January, Margulies' mother announced on her answering machine greeting. "A beautiful baby boy has been born to us," the message says. "Do a little dance. Love this day! All is well." ... Scrubs star John C. McGinley, 48, is a dad again after his wife, Nichole, 35, gave birth to their first daughter, Billie Grace, Feb. 2 in Malibu. Billie joins big brother Max, 10, the actor's son from a previous marriage.
Lost's Harold Perrineau and wife actress Brittany are awaiting the birth of their second child, a daughter, this May. Perrineau, 44, and Brittany, 32, are parents to 13-year-old Aurora.
Actress Julie Christie, 66, married her longtime boyfriend, British journalist Duncan Campbell, in India, according to the Jan. 30 edition of The Guardian, where Campbell is a correspondent. The two, who reportedly tied the knot two months ago, have been together nearly 30 years.
Blade actor Wesley Snipes, 45, was found not guilty of all felony charges in his federal tax evasion case. But an Ocala, Fla., jury did find him guilty of three misdemeanor charges of failing to file tax returns from 1999 to 2001. The split decision means the actor avoided a possible 16-year prison sentence, but he still faces up to three years in prison and must pay millions in back taxes, plus interest and penalties.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the Indian guru who made transcendental meditation famous in the West—and who taught the technique to the Beatles in 1967—died Feb. 5 in Vlodrop, The Netherlands. A rep said he died "of natural causes: his age." He was believed to be 91 years old.... Pioneering Mexican-American cartoonist Gus Arriola, 90, whose comic strip Gordo was one of the first to celebrate Hispanic culture, died Feb. 2 in Carmel, Calif. Arriola's strip, starring a Mexican bean farmer who became a tour guide, ran in more than 200 newspapers from 1941 to 1985 and helped introduce Mexican traditions to American readers.... Longtime General Hospital actress Shell Kepler, 49, died Feb. 1 at a Portland, Ore., hospital of natural causes. Kepler played gossipy nurse Amy Vining on the ABC soap opera from 1979 to 2002.
A year after his death, Barbaro's owners, Roy and Gretchen Jackson, announced plans to have the Kentucky Derby winner buried on the grounds of Churchill Downs, where he made his final showstopping win. A bronze statue of the bay colt will stand above his ashes near a park entrance gate.
