Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus, 15, would like to change her Destiny. Her parents, country artist Billy Ray Cyrus, 46, and wife Leticia, 40, filed papers in L.A. on her behalf requesting that her name be officially changed from Destiny Hope Cyrus to Miley Ray Cyrus, a variation of her childhood nickname, Smiley.
Former Punky Brewster star Soleil Moon Frye, 31, and her husband, Punk'd producer Jason Goldberg, 37, had their second child, daughter Jagger Joseph Blue, in L.A. March 17. The newborn joins big sister Poet Sienna Rose, 2.
The Riches star Minnie Driver, 38, is pregnant with her first child. "I'm going to be a happy mother," said the British actress, who has not revealed the father's identity. "I'm just going to have the summer to be fat and happy!" • American Idol 2005 runner-up Bo Bice, 32, and wife Caroline Fisher, 27, are awaiting their second child. "I'm proud to be a dad again," says the father of Aidan, 2.
John Mason, 35, the ex-fiancé of runaway bride Jennifer Wilbanks, 35 (who vanished four days before their planned nuptials in 2005), has wed at last. Mason, the general manager of a medical facility, exchanged vows in Duluth, Ga., March 15 with Shelley Martin, 34. "It's a joyous time in his life," says the groom's mother, Vicki. "We're happy that chapter is closed."
Actor Thomas Jane, 39, husband of Medium star Patricia Arquette, also 39, was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Kern County, Calif., March 17. Highway patrol stopped Jane for allegedly driving a Maserati at "an extremely high rate of speed."
On March 14, the family of actor John Ritter lost its $67 million wrongful-death lawsuit against Dr. Matthew Lotysch, a radiologist who interpreted Ritter's 2001 body scan, and Dr. Joseph Lee, a cardiologist who tended to Ritter in a Burbank, hospital the night he died. Lee was unaware that the Emmy winner, 54 at the time, was suffering from a tear in his aorta.
Science-fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke, 90, best-known for his 1968 novel and the concurrent film 2001: A Space Odyssey, died in Colombo, Sri Lanka, March 19. The British-born writer had battled post-polio syndrome for more than two decades.
ANTHONY MINGHELLA (1954-2008)
The Oscar-winning director (below, left) of The English Patient, Cold Mountain and The Talented Mr. Ripley died in London March 18 of a brain hemorrhage. "He was a brilliantly talented writer and director who wrote dialogue that was a joy to speak and then put it onto the screen in a way that always looked effortless," said Jude Law, who starred in three of his films. "He was a sweet, warm, bright and funny man who was interested in everything from football to opera.... I shall miss him hugely."
